I like to perform spooky tricks at Halloween or for those occasions where you find yourselves talking amongst friends, about some weird thing that happened in the past.
I usually like to get the deck out, probably the Black tigers. What do you use and what do you consider as the spookiset deck to use for such occasions?

A pink pastel bicycle deck, they find that really creepy.
Seriously, my friends wouldn't take such a thing seriously, so if I used black tigers it wouldn't really make a difference.

I found a deck around Halloween at a local crafts store that had a completely black back design with this creepy skull staring out at you on it. The suits were tombstones, black cats, jack-o-lanterns and ghosts. And I'm not talking about the cutsie holloween designs, this one was actually pretty spooky... if a little campy.
Maybe you could search around the internet and see if anyone else is selling "halloween playing cards" or something... Good luck! |

You could use a regular deck, and still have a "Spooky" effect. Check out David Parr's "A Game of Life or Death". Great story telling effect. "Gypsy Monte 2003" by R. Paul Wilson would also be a good choice. There are MANY mainstream effects that can be turned into something a little creepy.
I once used Skinners monte in a ghost conjuring bit, and it scared the hell out of them. Just use your imagination. Heck, you could do an ACR using an old tarot deck to great effect. The list goes on ....

Aren't there Tarot cards printed like a card deck? Some of those can be semi-creepifying.

Take four decks of Bicycles, and build a deck using four sets of spades. Then do a four aces bit where they all turn out to be the 'death card'. Finally, spread the deck to show all spades. Oooooh!

I like to use the Thoth tarot deck around halloween. There are several good effects for this deck and other tarot decks in "The Book of Thoth" by Stephen Minch.
Check it out.

Honestly, Invisible deck has gotten reactions that frightened me. I once thought an older woman was having a heart attack.
I believe that the layperson just isn't expecting anything magic to happen right in front of their face, and if you play it off right, just about anything can be scary. A simple Erdnase/Houdini color change freaks the right person out, in the right environment. Cheers!
