Hey,
a) What's your favorite method to fold a silk and b) How do you keep it together until you retrieve it for production. The key problem for me is to find a fold, which keeps the silk firmly folded until the very end, yet which allows the silk to unfold very, very quickly, with one flick of your wrist or - even better - when you are just throwing the silk in the air. One method per post, one post per method. Thanks a lot! -Christof

Christof,
Since I'm Bob, I'll do the "b" part. The clips I like best are actually for darkroom photography. That is because they have rubber tips that won't snag the silk and the metal spring parts won't rust stain the silk. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I use the triangle fold. Start with folding / rolling the silk into a small triangle and locking it at the end. I learned this from Fukai.

The 2 best silk folds I have come across is Fantasio's flat fold and the triangle fold. Both only tuck in an overlap and stay until needed.
The silk winding around a pencil or a silk winding gimmick also works if you like the silk ball. Posted: May 5, 2006 2:02pm For a holding device, the silk winder with a pin attached works well. I had mine made by Owen Magic Supreme. This is a metal winder similar to Tony Clarks, only much smaller. The next best holder is Vito Lupo's, this is a metal 'U' shaped holder that holds a wound silk and has the end stick up in a slit. |

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for or not, but I have a silk roller/holder on my site. Here is a link Silk Roller/Holder

I've always used the coil fold (detailed in Karl Fulves' Self-Working Handkerchief Magic), though I'm sure it's also called by other names. It holds together tightly, but can unroll with a pull of the hand for cover or even (with practice) a hard whipping motion for an instant appearance without cover. I just tuck the loose end under my belt for easy steals.

I don't know exactly how he did his fold but I would say that Fukai has one of the best silk appearances, which is accomplished by the way he folded his silk. Lou talks about it in a previous post.
