I heard these two are feuding over who is better, my sources may be wrong but if so it would be an interesting battle. Criss obviously couldn't bury, starve, freeze,or drown David and David couldn't burn, run over, chop up, or shoot Chriss. Although there may be a battle of stardom in the spotlight I think they are both very talented and have done well marketing themselves. I could just see D.C. flying in to referee.
What's your opinion? |

This is a valid point!
I've often wondered the same and heard a couple humorous stories from some extremely reliable sources that there is a little "King of the Mountain" going on! I find it funny that Blaine is currently doing a water stunt (I refuse to call it an illusion!). If you think about it, Criss performed "Submerged"- a tribute to Houdini in the very peice that Houdini himself created. Criss pusjed the envelope by making it an endurance challenge followed by an illusion/escape. Another account is this... "Oasis"-A cramped cylinder of acrylic submerged into yet another clear tank of water... Criss made an escape from it after being underwater for over 30 hours (or somewhere in that ballpark figure?) and reappeared on top of a Pontiac Torent. On-the-flip-side, Blaine is now doing an endurance challenge followed up by another endurance challenge... both of which are performed under water in a viewable tank. Irony... possibly? Another account is being buried alive.... Blaine did it before Angel... and Angel did it on his Mindfreak series... If you look back at Criss's "Oasis" from the Mindfreak TV series, Blaine actually stopped in to see Criss during his challenge and gave his blessings and wishes... Criss even made note that he thought "this meant a lot" and was "well respected"... The way he worded it made me believe there is a little competition between them... Both are at the top of their game in the world of street magic. In my opinion, I'd rather see Angel perform his stage show as his illusions are different from anyone else and he has a unique blend of music, magic, and story... As I mentioned above (and this source is well known in the magic community especially on this site)... there has been a little competition between the two. In fact during the filming of Blaine's "Vertigo" (the special where Blaine stands on the pole in the middle of Central Park), there is a small segment where you see Blaine looking down below him and he has a puzzled look on his face (I know he always looks puzzled... this time there was definately something disturbing him). Blaine's eyes where following someone walking through the crowd below him... Come to find out... it was Criss Angel handing out flyers and tickets to Angel's show... and Blaine is stuck on top of the pole helpless... I thought that was hilarious!!! I wonder what other's think...is there a little "battle" between these modern day "shaman"? -Bryan Gilles |

That's hilarious, I didn't know Criss was handing out flyers during Blaine's act. Hey he didn't have to go far to find a crowd that would be interested in going to his show. He's a hustler you gotta give him that. I've always wondered how Criss did that popcorn in eye trick.

Well those of you that don't know where the whole thing began, it was with David acting as if he was THE KING OF MAGIC when in fact he got a lucky break and he didn't put int the hard work as Chriss. Blaine is a product of a TV producer and Chriss is the product of Hard Work. So you know who I would favor...I don't have anything against Blaine, **** he helps me get booked, but the fact is you get more respect when you pay your dues.

If asked who I think is better, (and laymen ask me all the time)-- I say the same thing--neither.
Having a television show, and performing uninteresting "physical challenges" for publicity, shouldn't warrant mindless accolades from the magic community. Unfortunately, that's what it comes down to, in the minds of most....Television=Success. Keeping in mind the fact that laymen aren't privy to all of the editing/visual effects that we magicians might be able to point out, I would say Criss Angel has a better product...really the lesser of two evils. To Lusion-- Blaine helps you get booked? Really? I would have hoped that it was your merit/reputation as an entertainer that got you booked--not because someone saw a TV show and thought to themselves, "Hey. How can I get a functional illiterate, that appears to be strung-out on drugs, to perform intermediate-level magic at my next event?" (sarcasm) Keith Jozsef |

If there's one lawyer in a small town, he will have no work.
If there's two lawyers in a small town, both will retire rich. We love rivalries. When Tiger Woods was dominating the golf scene and no one could touch him, it had to be boring. Even more boring than golf usually is. I've often wondered if there is a Copperfield/Burton rivalry. It just seems Lance's TV specials were appearing when DC's were disappearing. Both have stage shows with an elegant style. It's too bad that if two people are great in an area, the public demands to crown one "the best." But if it keeps each challenged to work harder and develop new material, all the better for the public. |

There supposedly was a feud between Copperfield and Burton but it ended (supposedly)when Chriss Angel had burst on the scene and was walking up walls and making coins appear under his skin. He was and still is the hype when they were the ones in the spotlight before. Then it was all eyes on Criss, and David Blaine knew he had a public rivalry in the street magic and TV specials. Because Blaine was well established on his street magic, Criss came onto the scene with ambition and was hungry to succeed. His biggest help was having the Firm on his side.
Posted: May 5, 2006 11:52am --------------------------------------------- I also read in a an article that Chriss was asked about David and his response was "who?" so there definitely is some tension but then again it was expected. On David's behalf I read he went to one of Criss Angels show and congratulated him and was showing him respect so hopefully its just a big hype that everyone wants to see who is the best, but the way the world works and how competitive we all are, once you put your foot on the top of the mountain and see the view, no one wants to have that taken from them even if its just one step down. usatoday.com |

Stop .. you're killing me .. it's Criss Angel .. not "Chriss!"
I'm sure from what I've seen, he too is a huge KISS fan. The original drummer of the band in cat make-up was Peter Criss .. spelled Criss. This was Peters stage name .. shortened from his long Italian last name. I'm pretty sure this is where Criss got part of his stage name. One thing for sure .. both Blaine and Angel has stirred up interest in a vanishing art. Criss is at least Italian .. so I'm on his side .. Steve And yes .. I too have a stage name .. my real name is Dominick. |

Feuding over who is better? Better at what? Better at creating more media hype by having a public feud about who is best? That's an old stunt. We've seen it before, and know the method...
One can only hope they don't try to outdo each other in endurance stunts to the death. |

I think they're both cool. I love their shows. I enjoy seeing almost any magician. Unlike lots of magicians I don't really bash other magicians. It does seem oddly common to do that on this, and other, magic message boards. But I'm easy going, I like all of them. So anytime Blaine's on TV, Criss Angel's on TV, or some other person is on TV doing cool magic, you will know where to find me. In front of the TV.

I think they should both join the bearded lady and other side show performers and leave with the circus......

As long as anyone is on tv, performing magic without exposing it, they are doing ALL of us a favor. To me, it doesn't matter if it's David Blaine, David Copperfield, Criss Angel...as long as normal people are tuning it in, it equals local opportunities for the rest of us that also perform!

Christopher Starr--
You are correct in the basic notion of "there's no such thing as bad publicity"--for magic as a whole... However, I think it's only good to the point where spectators start calling and asking if, "you do the one where...(Insert any stooged/edited effect here)". I'd like to know how magicians explain this to their prospective clients. I just wonder how much good it does the average performer for Blaine/Angel to start setting unreal audience expectations, by performing effects that can't be duplicated in real-world scenarios. Does anyone not see the potential harm outweighing the initial good? Keith Jozsef |

If criss stuck to stage and blaine stuck to street/close up I think they could both concur (sp?) success in their own right...which we know Blaine has already done and Criss is well on his way. Can you beliefe its been like what...10 years ago now when Blaine first had his TV special.
They both have influenced me to go back to using my real name Hanz Ferari. Hanz

Well, I'd really like to see which one of these chaps could escape the vicious intensity of the "Iceman", Chuck Lidell in a championship match - five five-minute rounds - in the octagon.
It would also be very amusing if they faced each other in the octagon; I haven't seen a good "girly style" slap fight in a long time! A.

Aleiwshus, joke all you want, but Angel is cut. Dude is no wimp. And, he's from NY, so I would expect better than a girly slap fight out of him.
Besides, Blaine wouldn't throw a punch, he'd stare at Criss until Criss burst into flames. Then he'd sing happy birthday to his mom. |

Did you say another dude was "cut"....
Put that on my list of things I'll never say, out loud. The Iceman is never described as cut, and being cut in no way seems to matter when it comes to cage fighting, and being from New York, well there's a lot of people from New York and if I had to fight someone from New York, I'd take my chances with a magician over a dock worker, even if that magician was criss angel. I'm still betting slap fight. btw I don't want to get you riled, you look like you could throw down. A.
