Well I just got done watching his special and a few of the tricks he did was pretty amazing. I think he couldve done the 9 min if he didn't try to get out of the chains which if he was trying to break a "holding your breath the longest" record, why did he try to make it an escape?

I think the reason the chains were added was because so many people complained that there was nothing overtly magical about his other stunts. And even though it is slightly different, escapology, to laymen, is a form of magic. Saturday Night Live even joked about how he doesn't do magic during these stunts...I think he was just trying to appease the masses.

Then he shouldve had someone pick a card and made it appear in an air bubble or something. I felt bad for the guy and if that's true what you say Nfox he shouldnt of tried so hard in making it a record breaker, he shouldve of tried to make it JUST an escape. Then the episode wouldnt have been a failure in his eyes towards his goal (thats if he sees it that way) Sometimes that can be one of the perks of a live t.v. show is that you cant go back and edit it.

Yes Al, I am secure enough in my manhood to refer to another dude as "cut." He is muscular, no question about it. Doesn;'t mean I want to make out with him. But my wife might. She is, however, carrying my second child, should there be a question.
I have to concede the dock worker v magician here. And yeah, I LOOK that way. That's all I need. Actual capabilities are irrelevant. I never need to test them. |

Penn from Penn & Teller has a radio show from Vegas that plays in NY. Criss was on it and made a very valid point. Blaine doesn't do magic shows. Then Penn added how true it was and if you ever gave Blaine a deck of card, he really couldn't do any tricks. that's the reason for him doing it always taped.

Not tah toot my own horn, but, after almost every show I do I get people coming up to me and telling me I'm better than Criss and Dave...thats a good feeling!
I would venture to guess they say this 'cuz they just saw a LIVE performance and not one on T.V., whatever it still feels good when they say it! lol! Now when I see threads like this I'm reminded of the claymation wrestling they had on MTV...wouldn't it be funny to see Blaine and Angel duking it out in stopmotion animation? I always loved the episodes that had Marilyn Manson in them...hehehehe! johnny

As I have been completely away from any magic for years, I seem to have missed this Criss character. I knew when Penn & Teller started getting popular, that some "new" magicians would come along. I'll have to check it all out.
Any good DVDs out there with lots of good magicians? Kind of like the skate videos that my son watches? Tons 'o' stuph, not too over-produced/cheesy? ><>antimagic<>< |

You know, I always thought of Criss and David as being pretty much the same, up until I heard him on Penn's show (he's been on at least twice from what I've heard).
He's a smart, funny, humble guy who really knows his stuff. He definitely gets my respect, and in that way he wins as far as I'm concerned. |

This is kind of reminding me of the 'Celebrity Deathmatch' show that used to be on MTV.

My oppinion ... well there is allways a contest between people on the same field. Are you a accountant, athelete, builder, cheff or illusionist. But in this case I think it`shard to compeare them, cause they both have theyr good and bad sides. They both are good

Last November, our company hosted a public online chat with Criss. He was asked about his feud with Blaine....This is what came from the "horse's mouth"...
20:28:56 [JDKelley] “What are your thoughts on David Blaine?“ 20:29:04 [CrissAngel] Oh God!! 20:29:25 [JDKelley] So, what is the story behind this magical dual? 20:29:46 [CrissAngel] Well.........It all began when Blaine challenged me to see who is the best illusionist. 20:30:08 [CrissAngel] As childish as it seemed, I accepted Blaine's challenge, but never heard anything back. 20:30:29 [CrissAngel] I really don't think we're in the same league. 20:30:51 [JDKelley] Well....with the achievements you've accomplished....Blaine has done NONe of those 20:31:07 [CrissAngel] My demonstrations are much more provocative 20:31:24 [CrissAngel] they're things that people would never consider doing. 20:31:43 [CrissAngel] I had publicly challenged him many, many times and he's ignored it. 20:32:01 [CrissAngel] I contacted his camp on two occasions, and he's just blabbing his mouth... 20:32:21 [CrissAngel] he doesn't want to back it up. 20:32:36 [CrissAngel] I think his biggest fear is me." The chat was very interesting and insightful...he answered lots of questions, and chatted for almost two hours. He's a pretty cool guy, I guess. |
