Hey guys, I was turned on to this site by a friend who hates exposure as much as I do, and as it turns out, the people over there are completely oblivious to what they are doing to our art. I suggest everyone goes over there and raises hell, just as I'm doing right now. Anyones help would be greatly appriciated!!!

Don't wait for oppurtunity to knock, throw open the door, grab it by the throat and drag it inside kicking and screaming. Magically yours |

Ok maybe not but if a lot of people are sending them eventually they'll get tired of the emails and hopefully shut down the site.

I browsed around and I think they are harmless. I cannot say that any of them look seem really knowledgeable. Don't get your pants in a knot over them.

Well I wouldn't have recomended posting the link and uping their hits. That being said, now that the djinn is out of the bottle, I recomend polite, well thought out debate.
Wow, just checked out the site. Looks like someone just bought "HTML for Dummies." |

Why is this any more exposure than what anyone can buy in a magic shop?
I look at magicians the same way as I'd look at a lead guitarist. You might go to a show, see a lead guitarist playing some amazing riffs. After you might get to meet him and if you say, "hey I liked what you did... how did you do it?" - he's not gonna sit down and give you a lesson! However, if you're serious about learning guitar then you can go for lessons, buy a guitar book, or search the web to find out. Isn't magic the same? Isn't what we do only secret to people who simply wanna know how it's done? Isn't magic totally open and without secrets to anyone truly wanting to learn? Lastly, do you think the people who 'just wanna know how it's done' are going to take the time to register to this website and search through the effets until they come accross the particular trick that fooled them? If I'm ever performing and a layman tells me they know how it's done because of this exposure website then I'll eat my words. Magic is available for anyone to learn and has been for years. I think it's a problem when it's shoved down peoples throats as per the bloody masked magician! James |

It wouldn't be bad but the people that create the magic that is being exposed are losing money. Think about it.

Oh God, here we go again. The arguements to your questions have been made over and over, time and time again. It's not that no one should ever learn, it's that there is a system in place to protect the innocent from the misuse of the information.

Sending an email means nothing. Send a real letter if you want to complain. Included a photo of yourself too if you want.

I don´t like sites like that. If someone is really interested in magic he has a lot of stuff available today. (Books, DVDs, internet etc...)
Also the difference between magic and a guitar-player to mee is that a guitar-player openly shows what he does and it´s more about the music or maybe his technical skills. Even if someone knows in theory how to do play a lightning fast lick he will not be able to pull it off, not even half the speed. With some Magic stuff it is possible to copy some effects without much practice. They still look unimpressive but the mechanics itself can be learned faster than some advanced guitar techniques.
Practice doesn´t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect...

Exposure serves nicely to create bad magicians who will, without fail, subject an audience to their "tricks". If you want to learn magic, there is an age old, tried and tested, way to do it. Talk to magicians, buy the books (book), learn the art, the whole art. Obtain a mentor. Most importantly, if you respect someones work enough to want it, then see to it that they recieve just compensation for you using it. If you can't be bothered to do that, then stick to the public domain stuff, there is enough of it to make a successful career. For the record I got banned after one very polite post. These guys just want to cause trouble. |

Ah I get it... I thought it was a simple learning site and calling it 'exposed' was merely a clever marketing ploy. So are they revealing other peoples tricks?
I agree revealing other peoples tricks for free or not is highly unethical. However.. With regards to the actual secrets as far as laymen are concerned, I'm not too worried. If I go out and perform and someone wants to know how it's done so much that they come home, search on the internet, join an exposure site, and browse to find the trick I did (highly unlikely that they would find it as there are thousands!) - then to be honest, I don't mind them knowing! If it's so important to someone then so be it. Like I said before, If I'm ever out performing and someone says they know how it's done because they're a member of the exposure site then I'll eat my words. Come on, it's pretty unlikely to happen, most people don't care that much! James |

Teaching someone who doesn't know how to perform magic how to do "tricks" is just irresponsible. Allowing them to subject an audience to "Wana see a card trick" is unfair to the audiences that are subjected to them. There is a lot more to exposure than an audience knowing how you did your trick. It's all about the audience, not us. |
