About five years ago I purchased a gimmick in the UK for a few quid. It enabled me to perform the following effect:
Take a newly opened bottle of soda/water, place my hand over the top and turn it over upside-down...then take my hand away from the neck and the liquid remained inside without spilling. Plus, while holding it upside-down, I could take a toothpick and cause it to float up inside the full bottle. Does anyone know the name of this gimmick, and where I could purchase another? When I purchased it, it didn't have any packaging of any sort. Thanks. Dave |

Pop Bottle Trick:
Described as: A pop bottle, filled with water, may be turned upside down. Toothpicks or matches inserted in the neck of the bottle, will float to the top. Copyright 1959 by SS Adams Novelty-- originally sold for $0.19. They are actually collectible now.. you can pick one up for around 4 to 5 bucks if you search google. here is one for a buck: http://www.mickyhades.com/magicforsale04(Mi-Ro).htm
Never criticize someone else until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then, when you do criticize them, you will be a mile away from them and you will have their shoes.

I do not know the name of it but it is included in the set "Awesome Magic" by Fantasma. I think that they call it "Wonder Water". These set are all over though, including Ebay.

As Pete Biro mentioned earlier, the trick is called "Anti Gravico." A quick search of the internet turned up multiple dealers including:
in the UK - http://www.magicworld.co.uk/magic-shop/c......-61.html in the US - http://www.hanklee.org/xcart/customer/pr......tid=1628 If the links do not work, just copy and paste them into your web browser and you'll go right to it. Good luck. Mark. |

The ones available today seem to be cup shaped, very thin, and don't work all that well. About 30 years ago I had one that was a hard perspex/plexi disc that was just the right size and let you put the match stick through etc. It worked more like a hydrostatic glass gimmick and was just held on by the water. I am trying to remain vague so as not to expose but I wanted to point out the difference.
Anyway, does anybody know if this type is still available, was this the original anti gravico? Thanks, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! No the original was like a clear bottle cap. Your one works great with a little vasaline added.

Tarbell credits it to John Isely, and gives a nice routine in Vol. 4. I also remember reading somewhere that you can make this out of metal window screen (you have to shape the edge, like the anti-gravico gimmick). I can't remember where I saw it, I'm thinking Ganson's "Routined Manipulation", but don't hold me to that.

WOO - HOO! Resurrect an old thread - ok, so I bought Anti-Gravico from Hank Lee, and from what I can gather from reading other posts, this is the "cup" style gimmick, not the flat one.
I was curious if anyone else had this - and knew by site which bottles they could do the effect with and which ones they can not. I originally hoped this could be done with water bottles as this is the most common item people carry, but alas I have had a tough time finding a wide mouth water bottle. * and yes, I said 'alas' |
