WOW, what a strange reaction to my post.
Jeff: With all due respect I have every right to post my opinions in a forum set up for doing so. The question was posed asking what we thought about the demo and and expressed my opinions which were 100% on topic. Your post to me however really was a waste of space and would be better suited to a private message. I also think you may have misunderstood my tone or something. I was saying that while the effect did not impress me I did NOT, repeat NOT think the demo was anything but truthful and a good representation of the effect. The original poster sort of implied that maybe the demo did not match withthe description and I said I thought it DID match. SO I was actually supporting the creator of this effect in that regard. This board is about sharing opinions, mine may not match yours which is WONDERFUL. So post YOUR opinion but don't ask me not to express mine or say that mine is not valid or woth sharing. Chance: I guess this is why effects are so subjective, and also why good demo videos are so valuable. About half the posters here seem impressed and the other half seem underwhelmed by the demo. I am not saying the effect could not be strong, in fact I said it COULD be strong. Ad Ben says it is all in the presentation and I agree, if presented well this could be very impressive indeed. As far as the actual reactions on the demo, I guess I am used to getting stronger reactions to the stuff I do. It just seemed that the reactions were sort of nuetral (especially the father and son, I agree that the group of guys had a bit stronger reaction). AFTER I posted that I read on a different thread that many of the people they filmed would not sign releases and that they could not use some of the best reaction shots because of that. That is too bad as it would be fun to see. But at the end of the day I am not saying anything negative about this effect at all. I think it has a lot of potential and while the trick is not my personal thing I could easily see it working well for others. I have found myself involved in several little controversies on this board as of late. I have voied my opinions on some past tricks and demo videos and they have turned into arguments. That is the LAST thing I strive for and not what I want to happen here. These are just my opinions and nothing more... it's all cool. |

It's a decent amount of drizzle especially considering that this is something one can perform walk around. There's also appears to the spectator that there's nothing around that is causing the drizzle. It's an interesting effect. I am however waiting for a full review of this product before I purchase it as setup and practicality do need to be factored in.

Hey guys, there was a rainmaker thread a while back in this section and a good thing it was locked down. It was all arguments in regards to pre-orders, hype and such because of the whole Yigal Mesika and the electric touch incident. I am afraid this is going to turn into another one of these threads that nobody wants or cares to read about. Anyway with that said:
We had many many different types of reactions, and with our video we tried to show some of the differnt types of reactions one would recieve with the effect. Anything from people freaking out, to giddyness, and some were hesitant and withdrawn from the intitial shock. The father son if you watch both were really shocked and taken by the rain when it landed on them. You can see that their concntration on the rock was imediately broken and they both looked up with a stunned gaze. They didn't know what happened. They knew they were rained on, but were thinking, did that really happen...no way...or could it be....That to me was a very strong reaction, they just sort of looked at me in disbelief, not knowing what to say. I love getting that kind of reaction. Everyone will act differently to this type of illusion, espicially one that is so unusual and unexpected, and it plays on so many senses including touch, sight and even the sound of the rain pelting off of them. The last thing people expect is to actually get rained on. When you go up to someone and ask them to if you can show a magic trick, they are expecting to see a card turned upside down in a deck, or a hankercheif vanish in your fist, they are not expecting rain. Its an unusual tirck rainmaker. Its different then what your audience is used to when it comes to seeing a magic trick, ofcourse reactions are going to be very different then what you are used to. And everyone will act differently according to their personality and mood at that particular moment. This is something I have learned with great respect over the years of performing magic. I think the fact that there is nothing around you, no stooges, no one hiding in the bushes, your hands are in full view the entire time, and yet it still rains, is very shocking to people. It might be simple for magicians to come to conclusions, I mean hey, its obviously not real magic, but I bet your spectators might believe it is, and that's what I strive for in creating magic. Even if it is just a moment of disbelief that for a second, they actually question themselves if what they just expereinced is real magic or not, that is magic, and that is the best part about our art! As for the effect showing up on camera well, please understand that the rain shows up awesome in real life atmosphere and on an actual video tape, but once compressed and done in low res for the internet and it becomes pixelated, the rain becomes harder to see on the footage. Im not sure if you guys were expecting a hail storm or a tornado, but the effect simulates real rain very effectively. Plus who would want to have a down pour on their audience, possibly ruining hair dos, clothing etc, you would only make people mad. We could have made the prop that way, but wanted a nice gentle rain. Its like having Yigal's Electric touch, tazer people where they collapse and convulse on the ground, who would want that. As a performer you still need to respect your audience in that respect, and rainmaker falls withing those boundries making it a fun, harmless and exciting experience for everyone. But please note, you can make it rain longer than I did on the video, I just never felt the need for it. It was all about the shock. This is a hands free device that is so so easy to use, and ready to go out of the box, with very very little practice required on the technical aspects, allowing you to spend you time of practice on your presentation. It is a very simple, quick, accomidating and practical system. This isn't like my Elevator 2 where it takes a lot of practice to get it to look good. You simply take it out of the box, spend about 5 minutes to set it up, and then you are good to go the whole day, making it rain all over the place. You will have to stock up your resivoir now and then, but that only takes a minute to do when needed. This can also be used as comedy effect. Or in conjuction with other effects, such as Doug Higley's Dark Musuem for instance, doing the finale prediction of rain, and then it actually rains. It doesn't have to be a stand alone effect, although in my opinion, it is strong enough to be a stand alone effect. I will never please everyone, with my products or with my demo videos, but I will always try to bring you guys new and original magic that has never been done before. That's the best I can do. If you don't like the effect, well, I think you are missing out on something really special, this is by far one of the coolest things I have ever created, but if you don't like it, well, so be it, no single magic trick is ever sutied for everybody, and that's a fact. Just think of the possibilities and spend a just a few minutes thinking of what type of effects you can actually create with this device. Remember this type of magic is so unusual for your spectators, I promise you thatpeople will never forget it! They may forget the guy down the street who made you pick a card...bla..bla, but it will be a long time before they forget the guy who made it rain on them. Think about that for a moment. Anyway, hopefully this thread stays rational, so we don't have to get it locked up. Oh for those of you thinking Im coming on here to hype the trick up, this is not the case, I have already made deals with my distriubuter and my entire stock has been sold, expecpt for a very few remaining units that I have decided to keep and have left for my customers, so I have no motive to come on here and try to hype this up, because my paycheck has already been paid regardless if anyone buys it or not. Im just coming on here to let you know that I honestly beleive that this is a special and a one of a kind trick, and wanted to share my feelings with you on what has already been discussed. All the best, P.

I can't believe someone would watch that video and think the reactions were weak! Did I watch a different video or something? The group of guys freaked out and scattered.
The man and the boy were shocked and you could tell their heads were spinning and in disbelief of what just happened. Take it from someone who performs on a daily basis. Some people yell and run, and other people just sit there while there brain tries to compute. And all others in between. I'm sold. All the best, Kranzo

It looks like a cool effect. The first words that I heard from the group of guys was
"Ooooh &#@%" (Think of NFW) It is a good sign when spectators are so freaked out that they start swearing. (To me anyway) Another said "I swear it rained." One of the teens later said "Holy $@&*." and "You're soaked." There were enough sprinkles on the back of his friend's sweater to me. I would not want the spectator's clothes to be any wetter than that. The father and son obviously felt something. I think they were stunned to the point of being almost speechless. The father and the woman at the end of the video felt it was "amazing". The woman also looks up. Overall, I like what I saw on the video. |

I watched the video again and again I just don't see "Shock and speachlessness" from the spectators. HOWEVER I never said that I don't like the effect or think it is bad or really ANYTHING negative about the effect at all. I simply think that I was expecting lets say different reactions but I can easily see why people will like this and how it could be strong.
Peter is correct, you will never please everyone. I am in no way displeased, I think it looks solid, just not right for me (for several reasons I won't bore you with). People can express differing opinions and not have the thread tank into complainst and name calling. It's a great idea and an interesting effect and I hope it plays strongly for those who purchase it. As a side note, I am watching it on a Mac and I am only seeing the group of guys and the father and son, I am not seeing any other demos (someone mentioned a woman at the end). Maybe I am only seeing a shortened version for some odd reason, maybe that could explain my reaction to the demo? |

Thank you for your feedback Peter. You solve my worries. You are always helpful and response!!
My major concern (and why I feel the effect is weak) actually is the control of duration and amount of water. If this can be controlled, then everyone can make it fit their own performance. I am actually planning a scenario like this; while I chat with people in a resturant with window next to the table, I told stories of how Toaism (chinese reglious) can make rains. Then I preform it and make drizzles outside the window which should last for minutes or so. Anyway, can't wait for the arrival and I will give my review once received it in July! |

Iamslow, love the name! Did you know that artificial rain was created by the military in the UK in 1950 something? They caused a flash flood that somewhat devastated a village as I recall, but I don't remember all the details.
You guys are magicians, I'm surprised there's not a bit more imagination going on here. Even if the reactions from the spectators in the demo weren't all you might hope for, can't you IMAGINE how your own spectators will react when you perform it in your own act? I have no doubts what reaction I'm going to get with this one, it's SO much easier to assess than packet tricks and the like. Just put yourself in the shoes of the spectator, and you'll realise that being "rained on" is just not the norm, it's very unusual, and brings the audience right into your world of illusion. I still think it's the comedy aspect which is strongest, when your audience think back and tell others what happened, they're going to laugh about it, even if you really convinced them that you're a Shaman! For me, the most exciting "utility device" I've seen in ages, I'll be using it all the time, a bit like my "snow cannon". |

Someone did mention that they didn't see the woman at the end. So unless there is another video with a more docile group of guys, we have some very different opinions of what strong reactions are. I will respectfully add that everyone is entitled to their opinion. |

Hocus-Pocus has a shotened video.
Teevtee, Dude if those are weak reactions to you, and you get way better reactions as you said with your act all the time, well then my hats off to you! I thought guys jumping back screaming and swearing were good, but dude, if those are weak to you, then I gotta see your act! Is there anyway you could email me a live performance of your work, a sample even? (I'm dead serious) you have me very intrigued to say the least! To wise owl, you won't be able to make rain outside while you are inside, sorry. P.

There doesn't seem to be much comment on the possibilities of this effect. Have any kids entertainers out there thought what Rainmaker might add to a "Bloming Flower" type effect? The kid holds the flower and says the magic word (after you tried several times and failed, did lots of business). It starts to rain, and the flower appears! A beautiful trick to put in your show early, every child will be riveted for the remainder of your performance!
Or maybe I'll be able to operate this while working a puppet, that would be way cool. How many of you puppeteers would want to be able to do that? It starts to rain, and the puppet goes indoors. I think angles for misdirection could be a problem, though, only guessing... If you perform "Evaporation Experiment" or "Wacky Water Wheel", or any kind of liquid vanish, you stand in front of your audience after the vanish, and ask them "Where did the water go?" Take out a small mirror, or use the stone provided, or another prop, and when the audience focusses on the prop, it rains. Hey, there's the missing water.... |

With all due respect Teevtee, your opinions seem to always be negative and full of uninformed opinions. I would guess I am not the only that has notice this. Yes you are intitled to your opninions when the have an ounce of reason or logic. This forum was designed to help performers, express worth while opinions not mainly negativity and pure speculation. Send in your demo's of all the better reactions you get or maybe a demo of some of your top notch products then maybe someone might take you a little more seriously, or even a resume for all of your boookings. These threads become sad because of the wasted space some people take up. Chance I agree with you and other posters, the demo is great and knowing Peter's gang bang on the money, you would have to be crazy to think those specs didn't show some pretty cool reactions. Silence is a reaction, they are trying everything in thier power to comprehend something. Not everyone jumps, screams or cries out.

Jeff:
I honestly do not understand your atagonistic approach to me, it is ironic that you claim I am negative and waste space while you are being incredibly negative towards me and your posts are WAY off topic (perhaps you need to start a Teevtee sucks thread). My posts are not uninformed because they are simply my opinions, in this case I am commenting on a demo video which was exactly what the original post asked us to do. I simply could not be more on topic than that. You accuse me of being overly negative and yet most of my posts are very positive. I have posted RAVE reviews on the effect "$", on the Hades Finger Chopper (and Mafia Manicure), on Labco products on Sinful and many more. There have been a grand total of THREE effects I have been negative about. Those are Pen Thru Arm because I do not like the effect and thought it was sold in a misleading manner, Hole In the Head because I again thought it was very limiting and most recently InTact in which case I did not even comment on the effect itself but rather how the video was not showing an accurate representation of the effect. I did not post ANYTHING negative about Rainmaker. In fact I have said several positive things about it. The only thing I have said which I am now oddly being attacked for is that I was not impressed with the reactions in the demo. I don't know what to tell you, I was not impressed but that is NOT saying that the efefct itself is not good and I have been very, very clear about that. You have the right to your opinion and also have the right to ignore my opinion, but that is where your authority ends. I HATE posts like this because it is just meaningless but when someone calls your opinions into question as if they are invalid then you must respond. I am not some "troll" out to cause discord. It is OK to have different opinions and it is OK to not just be cheerleaders for every effect. When I see stuff I think is strong or I get great reactions to I post positive reactions. When I see stuff I think is weak I post negative reactions. In the case of Rainmaker I have posted 90% positive things... what's this issue here? |

I really don't want to go on and on about my feelings towards the reactions in your demo video. They are just one guys opinios, are neither here nor there and have already been WAY over discussed. Suffice it to say that it for whatever reason it struck me as it did. I will restate AGAIN that I think the effect itself has lots of potential to be strong and I have NEVER said otherwise. I wish you well on it and I think it is a unique and interesting idea for sure. I do have an operation question I am hoping you can answer for me. Is the effect totally silent? In an intamate setting is there any chance of a noide factor being an issue in your opinion? Thanks |
