Hi all,

I've been a member of this forum for some time but I haven't posted much yet.
I'd like to share with you some riffle stacking I've taped.
I hope that you guys are willing to share your thoughts with me so that we all can enjoy our wonderfull art and even improve our handling.

The question is if some of you have experience with riffle stacking and also including this in you reportoire. I hope to do this one day. Maybe you could give me some extra pointers or share some knowledge from your own experience.

Didn't look too bad at all. It might not stand up to some magicians' critiques, but it'll fly by the average joe at the average game. Also, I'm not a fan of the open hand position; but that's just me.

You know what? Your riffle stacking is actually really good.

I have never used riffle stacking professionally but have done some demonstrations for friends etc. I'm sure that you have read Darwin Ortiz at the Card Table so you have be exposed his riffle stacking routines (i.e. Fast Shuffle) Also, Earnest Earick has a great riffle stacking routine; but applied to Blackjack; in By Forces Unseen. The routine is called The Case of the Inconsisent Players. I have tried both of them and they are very good routines in the right setting.

Trouble with riffle stacking is you have to be sitting....

Thank you. I'm planning to use this is a routine as a demonstration. That one sentence, yes, which that I had left it out. But I did tape it once, if I do tape it again some time I think more about the patter.

Good to hear. I'm still practicing and trying to improve the handling. The open method of shuffling is something I've practiced. I should try an practice the close method aswell

I know it's a shame but I haven't read Darwin Ortiz at the Card Table (yet). It's still on my "to buy list".
I also haven't read: By Forces Unseen. Good book of what I hear. Is there more gambling material in it?
I've been doing gambling/cheating for 1,5 years now and there are so many books I haven't read on the subject. It will take me some time I guess.
I just ordered a copy of Juan Tamariz' Mnemonica, and Darwin Ortiz' book: the Annotated Erdnase I have high expectations of both books.
I have Darwin Ortiz' Scams & Fantasies and there is also a trick with riffle stacking involved: Shark Attack. I like the effect. Still, I'm not familiar with the "block transfer" Need to find that out.

Indeed true. I sometimes practice standing but it's more difficult when you're used to sitting at a table. I'd like to do a routine sitting but it would be great be able doing it both standing and sitting.

Hi Tom,

I also liked your riffle stacking and the modest way you present yourself. In Darwin's 'At the Card Table' the seminal riffle stacking effect in my opinion is 'Fast Shuffle'. The effect is to riffle shuffle and stack the four aces to the fifth/dealers hand in four shuffles, then two shuffles and finally in one super fast single riffle shuffle taking less than a second. I have developed a simplified handling of this excellent demonstration of skill which confines the riffles just holding back four cards on each shuffle. When you get round to 'At the Card Table' a superb collection of gambling and card magic material, and your still interested, PM me and I'll let you have my handling to play around with.

Thank you for the nice words. I'm planning to get Darwin Ortiz at the Card Table. I like Darwin's way of thinking and presentation. And of course his skill with a deck of cards is superb.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. I try if I can see Glenn's work on that deep riffle stacking. I'm not familiar with that term (yet).

I also have posted a clip about Eight Perfect Faros. It's not in this section. Already posted it in another section before I noticed that this is a better spot.
It is in the "Shuffled not Stirred" section.

When I think of gambling, since we're in the gambling spot, I also think of dice.
I also like to do some dice stacking in a gambling demonstration. Sort of a bonus.

Here I will list the roughly thoughts of my gambling routine I had in mind in that particular order:

Open a new deck of cards:
1 false shuffles/ cuts
2 second deal (face down, face up, stud)
3 bottom deal (face down, face up, stud)
4 the pass (classic, turover, whoops!)
5 greek deal
6 stacking (overhand, riffle, faro)
7 estimation
closer: three card monte
bonus: dice stacking.

Performance time: +/- 30 minutes.


Maybe some of you have experience in performing, and you'd also like to share those thoughts with me.
