Ok... this actually looks quite painfull. What are peoples opinion of this?
Dis Jointed is a revolutionary new method for "Shinko's classic Arm Twist" that turns the screws on the scream factor. Dis Jointed gives you the freakish ability to twist your normal arm 360 degrees around with bone crunching sound. Then there's a heart stopping "pop" as you physically break your elbow at the joint! You then complete the dislocation by shoving your shoulder back into your arm socket. The freak-fest ends with one more 360 degree twist of your arm as your shocked spectators watch your bones snap back into place! Dis Jointed can be performed by anybody with normal body parts. No pre-set No hand switches Not misdirection No pain For the ultimate freak-out, perform Shinko's original arm twist first...and then drop them to their knees with Dis Jointed! Some freaks are born. Others are made. The best are...DIS JOINTED! http://www.murphysmagicsupplies.com/vide......DEO1.wmv

Other than the sound elements and the "break" I don't see any difference between this and the classic version. Am I missing something? The "break" while and interesting idea is certainly quite obvious what is being done (assuing you understand the method of the classic version) and the noise addition has been around for MANY years.
So to me this seems like the same trick that has been around for decades... but again, am I mising something? Don't get me wrong, I like the trick, just don't see anything new. |

Im familiar with the "classic" version, but this one doesn't seem to have any "preset". The video demo doesn't cut away from him standing to him putting his hand on the floor which is normally when the special something takes place.
Plus his hand is rotating clockwise, not anti-clockwise which is different from the classic version.

The reason the camera did not cut away was because the kid is twisting his arm in the opposite direction of the standard original...
I wasn't all that impressed with this effect to begin with, because I thought it actually [revealed] an illusion rather than made one. But now that I see people have are actually intrigued/amazed by it, I may have to start using this presentation... I think I'd prelude this version with the original, however. Twist my arm 360 degrees one way with a spectator beside me trying to copy my actions; then 720 degrees the other after the initial rotation... THEN break it and shove it all back into place... Yeah, that'd be killer. While I know the methods, I'll definitely have to pick this up for the subtleties to sell the illusion as convincingly as the demo portrays. Ray...

I am/used to be doublejointed in my elbow and shoulder and could turn my left arm 360 degrees. My right arm doesn't quite get 360 but gets close. When I bent my elbow it would bend like his break but without the noise. I had surgery about 2 months ago on the shoulder because of chronic dislocations so I'm not sure if I'll still be able to do that when I get fully healed. It looks funky in a short sleeve shirt.

This effect looks so sick! I love it. I don't know how it is done, nor do I care. I just thought this was pretty impressive looking!

How different is this from the original version?

I still don't see what is different from the orginal either. I mean I LIKE the effect but I feel like I am missing something.
One problem I have with the original (or this for that matter) is that most spectators just assume that you are some contortionist double jointed type of side show geek. They freak out for sure but they conclude not that it is magic but rather that you simply have a physical anomily. Somehow that is not as satisfying to me. |

When I perform dis jointed it is always last, after the coins, cards, PK, metalism, ect. So my audiences know that I am a magician and asume that it is a magic trick. Now on the other hand their are some situations when I want people to think I'm a freak, then I will perform it along with a few geek acts like needle through arm or something to that nature, but I hardly do to many "freak" shows anymore.
Like all magic It depends on your presentation, the seldom magicians I taught it to up to its release had variouse presentations. One guy presented dis jointed as a comedy effect, and got amazing laughs. I perform it seriouse and get shreeking screams, so it all depends on what your character is. I hope this helped JR

Thanks for the thoughts Joe.
Can you help me understand the differences from the original version a bit more. I am sorry if I am being dense but I am somehow missing it. In your opinion is the main difference the sound and or break portion of the trick or are you starting out in a different position than the original if you know what I mean. |

Completly different method than the original, infact I created this effect before ever learning about the Mehrir Yedid method, The real difference is the breaking arm part, but it also calls for no misdirection or sneaky moves like the original incase people aren't comfortable with the original switch, I'm sure if you wanted to combine it with the original you could, but I perform it almost like how you see it on the demo

I almost always use a table or a bar stool, I usualy make the floor my last option (just because I hate when my hands get dirty)
