Angelo is right. Who cares?
If it uses a gimmick fine, if not great. It if the effect looks great and it is strong that is what counts. Speaking of finger magic Angelo has a fantastic finger effect as well. All the best, Nathan

I would prefer it NOT to use a gimick as that would make it impromptu and more realsitic. Sadly Ifear that it probably does need a gimick, lets hope not.

Since when does a gimmick make something less realistic?
I understand that you have specific wants and needs when it comes to material you choose to perform. BUT it isn't good to put those wants and needs in front of EFFECT and hold them against the creator. Lets just be glad that Dan has shared with us one of his creations before we start complaining. If you don't like it, don't buy it! And if you already have bought....when will you learn your lesson? : ) All the best, Nathan

Hey teevtee,
I just ran across this at Hank Lee's site. "Comes complete with shrinking finger kit that adapts the gimmick to your very own personal pinkie." Sorry to break the news to you man. I have kleenex if you need it. : ) All the best, Kranzo P.S. I don't know abou y'all but this makes it sound pretty frickin cool!

I'm not sure wy you are coming at me the way you are but I never intended to suggest anything negative about this effect at all. I know NOTHING about it other than the desacription and no, I have not purchaed it. The discussion came up about wether a gimick is used or not, in my opinion tricks are almost always better if they can be performed without a gimmick. This does not make gimmicked tricks bad by nature or anything, I own and perfrom MANY gimmicked effects. It's just that if given a choice, in a perfect world, I would choose a non gimmicked method simply because they tend to be more impromptu and there is less to keep track of. Your point of my use of the word "realistic" is a good observation, probably not the best choice of words on my part. I really have no basis to use the word realistic in this context so I apologize... I will have to wait and see some reviews on this, if good I am certainly interested, gimmicked or not. No Kleenex required though my friend. |

Gimmick or not it's fine with me. The only thing I hope for is that it is clean with no weird moments. That's why the lack of demo makes me wonder. The use of gimmicks does not affect me. I look for the effect.

I'm not coming at you man just looking out for a fellow creator. : )
Even though you say you have no negative thoughts about the effect your thoughts regarding gimmicks/non gimmicks can taint the views of potential buyers before the effect is even released and this isn't really fair for Dan's effect. I understand what you mean but others might not. All the best, Kranzo P.S. Glad you don't need the kleenex. : )

I understand and agree!
And it may have been a wise decision not to put a demo, because I know what happens when something is not too good for a video clip. Have seen that happen many times

If you want something similar that is completely impromptu, try Meir Yedid's "Finger fantasies".

It's also fair to mention that the effect is only $20, so even without a video, it's not like anyone's risking a decent sum of cash, just in case.
All reports have been positive so far though !
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

True, true.
Also a nice similar effect is in Andrew Mayne's Body Morphin manuscript. Worth a look into. This is completely impromptu, but not this visual. But hey, you cannot have everything, right?

Okay, I don't want to start a debate about motivation (there's a good discussion of that in the Staked thread), but this is the kind of effect that I personally can't imagine performing without a funny story or some outward motivation other than just because I can. Any ideas? In other words, why would you want to shrink your pinky?
One idea I have is to tell a story about a ring that I got as a kid that had sentimental value and as I grew into adulthood it didn't fit me any more (true story by the way). I went to a jeweler and asked if he could make the ring bigger, and when he said no, I did the next best thing...I made my finger smaller (not true story by the way ). Any other ideas? |

As always, interesting insights and debate here in the ol' Café and no exception with this effect.
One minor issue, tho...still no actual product in hand! Waiting by the mailbox.... |

I've had the pleasure of hanging out with Dan and this is well worth $20. When he first performed for me I was taken back. Dan definately thinks outside of the box and his Incredible Shrinking Finger is a product of perpetual thinking and many performances. He's shared some of his future ideas with me and you'll be seeing more from this guy!

Thanks spillvermouth.....first review is imminent.
Hope today Rooman.... I really want to shrink my finger but spent so much lately only to shelve or put up for sale. Addiction is pretty bad right now. NIVA: good one, or how about you are demonstrating what Blaine's finger looked like after the sphere?
