I just used the Performer software last Saturday for the first time in a paid performance. All I can say is WOW!!! it performed perfectly. The response time was very fast (faster than my VSM iCue) and the overall ease of use was brilliant. Kudos to Jason for developing this. Once its ready for release, you guys will love it.

Any idea yet of a release date for it?

Well...I think I had the last one produced, kept it about a month for a "test drive", and sent it back. The pluses are all there, HOWEVER...they weren't mass produced, and I think Jason had some personal problems that prevented this from going further. The idea was nice, BUT...you had to use a laptop, and that laptop had to be within viewing while performing. Who wants a computer sitting on the stage (in a situation where you don't have "wings") so you can see what track is next. I compared all the different systems that were on the market, all the pros and cons, features and simplicity...I bought an iCue2 (squared) and could NOT have been happier. Now I've ordered the iCue2 PA, and when it comes in, I'll let you know how that is. I doubt I could be disappointed.

Yosef,

The "Performer" system is software based for the Mac OS using the Griffin Tech. Airclick USB remote:

http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/airclickusb

The "Performer" software was in the beta testing phase but development stopped for many reasons. If you had a powerbook and with a $30.00 remote you could control your show.

But luckily Winamp which is the second most popular media player in the world following Microsoft Media Player, has a plugin that will allow you to control your sound using the Griffin Airclick. The software is free and runs on the Windows OS:

The Winamp plug found here:

I place my laptop on a custom rack mount unit next to my speakers. The rackmount case also contains my microphone receivers, microphones, and remotes.

OR...just buy an iCue2 and have it all (including wireless mic) all built into one single, stand-alone unit that's AC/DC and puts out enough power for a moderate event, and there's a line out jack should you want to go to a larger amp/speaker after this.

I found it way too cumbersome to have a "rackmount unit" sitting on the stage (where it would have to be so you could see the laptop screen for your track prompts) with a laptop in or on it.

I am currently using a laptop with Girder, Soundplant, and X10 remote. It's a little tricky to get up and running before the show, but once it's set and tested, it works fine (I can use the X10 4 button or 8 button remotes). I use the 8 button remote, with each button programmed for a specific cue (I can re-use the same cue just by pressing a specific button over and over). I wrote about this in an old post a couple of years ago... the laptop is OLD (I upgraded it to Windows 98 from Win 95!), but it serves this purpose well. I was just considering something a bit less "clunky", as I now have to carry a laptop, X10 remote modules, cables, etc. and fiddle with it to make sure it works every time...

Icue2 PA. It has everything built in. And you can take a line out to a larger amp if need be for larger shows. That thing you're using sounds like a pain. http://www.virtualsoundman.com

I used the Performer for over a year, and it was great.
Jason is a super nice guy and always very helpful on the phone.

I don't think he ever got around to marketing it, as his wife
passed away in the midst of all this, and I suppose he had some
life changes with that.

If he ever markets it, it is definitely worth taking a look at!

Yosef,

You might have a look into Winamp. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=11

Since you already have a laptop and X10 remote, one or all of these plugins should work with your controllers:

http://x10mp3.sourceforge.net/

http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?4000000037923

http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/145200

http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/19200

Test them out on your desktop computer and see which one works. Winamp will replace Soundplant and the plugin will replace grider.

Also you can set software to start automatically when you power up a computer by placing it in the Startup folder.
