Hi,
I have recently ordered my copy of Carneycopia after hearing tons of great things about this book as well as the inspiring essays in it. I can't wait! I just hope I can get the book in my hands ASAP Mr. Carney, what effects do you find the most interesting in this book and maybe I should take a look at first (I am going to read the book from cover to cover anyways) Thanks, msc455magic

The best of, eh?
Well, I think the opening essay is most important. You will see what I think about magic in general, and perhaps view the magic that follows in context. Although the book was written by the wonderful Stephen Minch, it is a sort of "as told to" book. I try to show my way of thinking, which was learned from many teachers, books and experience. I don't necessarily want to teach people WHAT to think about magic........I want them to think in the first place. Good magic starts in the head, not the hands. You can do all the moves in the world, but if you don't know what an effect is, if you don't have an ideal to strive for, if you aren't willing to challenge yourself.....your magic will always be pedestrian. The choice of tricks depends on your taste. I like the Logical Bill Trick, for the method, the effect and the fact that it can be done in impromptu circumstances. Fruit Cup is a very commercial trick that plays big, even if it is just for a few friends around a dinner table. The napkin trilogy is a good example of thinking outside the box.....taking familiar elements and making fresh combinations. I hope you enjoy the book.......I won't spoil it by telling you the ending. have fun, Carney |
