Pretty much describes this effect; the silk is in the left or right cup, and after the usual by-play ("Turn it around..."), the silk visibly jumps into the center cup. Ummm, what the heck is this trick called, and is it still being made? Thanks.

Was it Silk Goblet or Jumping Silks made by Warren Stephens?

Yes, it was Warren's Jumping Silk. I might have one, if I can find it.

Ah - Thank you, Kregg and Richard - that's it! Just searched with the info you both gave me, and it looks like MAK still makes one in the $30 range. Suddenly, I'm on a silk kick... Just started working with the old Duck-to-Rabbit, too. So many great-audience-reaction routines with silks; they're elegant and flashy, and some definitely fill the silliness quotient as well.

Seems like there was a version by someone (Tannen's?) called Kangaroo Glasses or Silk. Maybe I'm thinking of a different effect.

I agree, Julie. He also does great custom work and renovations. He redid my Double Pagoda Box. It originally had a circus tent motif with a clown face, and I wanted something more "classy" (as in classical) looking in red, black, and gold. If you go to the following link and scroll down to Pagoda Box, you will see the before and after photos, as well as photos of other work he has done:
http://themagiccompany.com/cat_custom.html I can't recommend Michael's work enough. Jimmy

Add my name to the list of satisfied customers of Michael Baker's fine craftsmanship! Just received my Kangaroo Glasses today, and it looks and works great, and was packed and shipped very well so it arrived in perfect shape. This'll definitely have a place in my shows. Thanks everyone for the recommendation, and Michael for your great work and service!

Joe,
You got a chance to meet Michael Baker at SEAM 2006 last week. I hope your son Chris introduced you. He's a good man to know. Bob PS --- Come back to see us in Alabama again soon! |

Bob,
Did get a chance to meet Mike. Great guy, and really, really enjoyed his show, too! Just saw the fine hand-made wood props. Wow. Now, I think I'm going to have a few of these craftsman works of art on my list. Joe |
