Hiya, Magi:
One of my Bizarre favorites is Voodoo Ashes(?), the bit where a spot of ash appears in a spectator's closed fist. Typically, I use this in formal Bizarre work, but on occasion I throw it in to straight Magic sets, putting a comedy spin on it. [I exaggerate the dramatic build-up, and then invoke the 'spirits' with a spell of spoken chorus words from a silly 1950s doo-wop song.] This brings a pretty good laugh followed by -- on good nights -- some gratifying astonishment. I can't be the only one bending genres in this way, huh? Anybody else going for sepulchural squeals and ghastly giggles with their use of the Dark Arts? |

Odd you should bring this up!
I was just reading in one of the other areas of the forum on balloon magic, and I was wondering how might a Bizarrist use ballon (animals)- and other accoutrement in a routine? Needle through balloon poodle? an unusual way of training Fifi to use the papers! For those with the creature- instead of card in balloon......! So why settle for quarter in the shot glass when you can push it into the balloon, think of it as an easy to break into piggy bank. Anyone else? k

Hi Leland. I've always thought humor and the macabre made a perfect combination for entertainment, allowing for the full roller coaster ride. Tony Andruzzi, Doc Shiels, and Docc Hilford all add their own touch of humor to bizarre presentations. And I am never able to resist incorporating humor when appropriate; I try to be certain it does not negate the feeling of awe or wonder that much bizarre magic evokes.
Hi Kay. Michael Fraughton offers us Latex Hounds of Hell, in his wonderful book Dark Waltz. Check it out. |
