I'm currently researching the Birmingham Handcuff Maker, Thomas Froggatt (1864-1951)and would like to hear from anyone who has any recollections or stories about him. He worked for his father's company, Froggat and Co. of Birmingham, until 1937, when he sold the business to famous Birmingham handcuff makers, Hiatt and Co. He worked there for another 11 years, when he retired. He was still making handcuffs, by hand, at 84 years old!
I particularly would like to know if anyone has photos or newspaper cuttings. He was quite a famous guy in his day. Thanks a lot. |

Have you tried contacting the Hiatt & Co factory?

Yes, sure, but all their records were destroyed by fire during the war. I'm going on the local radio soon, so maybe I'll get some information there. It's a long shot, but someone in their 70's could still be alive who worked with him.
