Here is a clip of a few seconds and bottoms.

The seconds at the beginning go...

s, s, s, s, t, t, t, t, s, s, s, s, t, t, t, t.

The later angle of the bottom deals have the ace's face up on the bottom. It's fast, but catch them coming out.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

(Oh yes, and the music is "The Hoverboard Chase" from Back to the Future - I was in a goofy mood so I put my favorite films score on there. Smile )

Everything is good but I'm afraid its way to fast to be able to tell much about the moves since everything is a blur.
you can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but never all of the people all the time.

Good stuff.

Only thing I'd mention is the left thumb action is inconsistent and the only really noticeable tell. It's the type of thing few would pick up on but you should at least be aware of it.

Grant: your work is excellent, and I missed the point when I said you should down your tempo a little (on your last vid). Andrew was totally right, pursue your path.

Mr. Z, that's one of the quickest-to-go, deceptive moves of its kind I've ever seen.

I think it's cool. I don'r agree with with the down the tempo comment as that is the tempo that pro dealers deal at the card table, in games that I see at least. So long as the rythm is consistant it looks great. Magicians on the other hand deal a lot slower and so does the average guy who deals at the table. Pro dealers are dealing for hours, night after night and deal at a fast tempo normally. It may look fast to some magicians and even kitchen table card players but it does not seem too fast to me.
At a large poker table you will need to sail cards some distance accuratly to players in a ring, I would give that plenty of pratice. Anyway it's cool!
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Many thanks for your video demonstration Grant. It all looks like excellent card work to me. As we are a picky lot, I agree with Mr Z that the thumb action is a tell where it lifts for tops and is dead for the bottom. Also, there is an interesting issue around the style of grip. Personally, I learned the Gene Maze modified Erdnase grip to begin with. Then I decided to try for a grip that I could use with tops, seconds and bottoms that approached the Square John grip. For me this was the master grip. Ian Kendall has also developed a version using the mechanics grip that is very good as well. Mind you, your average spectator will not notice any kind of grip change.

With regard to tempo for the false deals, especilly for the bottom deal, I think speed is a good thing as it helps to disguise the moves. When you combine the kind of speed in your video with accurate sailing of the cards to the players hands, it looks fabulous. I thought you addressed the fast pace in your video with the slow mo section. You really are a wiz with this stuff. Thanks once again.

Good Stuff bro... The only thing I would like to add is to try and add more spin when you pitch the cards... the speed is fine and the timing is fine as well...

Hmm?
Another tip when practicing false deals. Try not to get into the habit of just dealing the cards in one big sloppy pile. Practice dealing around the table as if there were real players there, trying to hit the hands consistently and accurately.

Great stuff Grant, that's so fast you're going to have to set a higher shutter speed on your camera!!

No kidding, try the "sports" setting!.....great work.

Thanks all! I fixed the thumb problem. It's great having these boards, and its even better having honest people. The help here is extrodinary. I have seen improvement in 3 days.

Side Note- I am moving to Los Angeles in September. I want to check out the Magic Castle, but I here you have to be over 21. Is there anyway I can still visit or be a part of it?

Question- I am practicing push off seconds, and I keep running into the same problem. Every time I retract the top card, the bottom left corner pushes off my skin to the right, and I have to re-adjust after every deal. I can do them fine, but this problem is becoming a nuissense. Any ideas?

Best,

Grant

Very nicely done, Grant! Enjoyed that. The bottom deal was especially good I thought.

Beautiful work. The only thing I'd watch is the slight float of the third and fourth fingers on the bases. I only say so, because that's my measureing stick. Having said that, you're still better with it than 99% of what I've seen. Very nice. (especially if you've knocked out the dead thumb. that's my biggest problem and tough to crack.)

Kudos
