For those of you who knew George Sands he will truly be missed. It seems we are losing way too many "great" ones..George's rope trick "Sandsational Rope" was a great routine and more importantly the man will be missed by his family, friends and the magic community.

I'm not familiar with him (or rather, I wasn't), but that doesn't mean I can't stop by to express my sorrow. He will be missed amongst magicians, but he will live on through his contributions to the art.

Daniel,
Sandsational Rope and Ropesational became the basis for many of the great routines used today. Paul Daniels, Dick Cavett, David Copperfield, and many more all used these, or parts of, in there shows. Ever see, or do, the one where you "cut" a piece of rope with your fingers? Or show a rope with no ends ("an endless rope" as Tabary would say)? How about wrapping a rope around your thumb leaving a loop above, and then "thread the needle" with lightning speed? These are all from George Sands. George Sands created effects in many other areas of magic also. His son, Alan, has his effects for sale on his website.... http://alansands.com/store/georgesands.html ....where it says, "My dad always gathered his things to leave the house: Keys, wallet, watch, calendar book, a deck of cards and a (SandSational) Rope, always. My father now has Alzhiemer's, and he can no longer remember the moves to any of his creations and tricks, but before he leaves the house, he places in his pocket, a deck of cards and his rope. When you have mastered RopeSational, you will have acquired a bit of my fatherÕs spirit. I ask you to carry it with you and let it serve you well, as it has me, and my father. His rope tricks were his pride."

That was brilliant. It cleared up a lot. When I get the money, I'll definitely purchase some of his material.

George Sands will be missed by all in the magic community. He touched all, and added his contrabutions to the magic world. The community is a more magical place because of him and all he has given us. Let us not forget this great man.
