So Neff's Miracle Rope isn't in Abbott's Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks for Magicians?

As John pointed out the Neff miracle rope trick is in the Stewart James encyclopedia, and the trick is availible at the Abbotts magic shop for $16. Al Angello

Thank you very much for showing me the Shigeo Takagi cut, and restore routine. Back in the late 1970's I saw a comedy special on A&E, with Dick Cavett as the MC. On that show Dick Cavett did an unbelievable cut, and restore that has baffeled me for almost 30 years. What he did that night, I now know was the Shigeo Takagi cut, and restore move, this move is so unique it will fool a magician. This is a real light bulb moment for me Vinny. The Tarbell Rope Mystery - Method A
I'm not a rope guy, but I used to do this routine silently on the street, and it always got a terrific response, which baffled me. FWIW Jason

I've had quite a bit of success with Full Circle....Nice variation of professor's nightmare with a hint of cut & restored rope. Probably a little too simplistic for most seasoned rope workers, but I like it anyway

You should be quite content with "full circle" it is in my opinion the best ring and rope routine there is, with a begining, middle, and end. If you want to spice it up a little try some of the "fiber optic" moves, because both routines use the same two rope moves. Al Angello

David Williamson features a lovely ring and rope routine on his DVD, Dave 2. Another nod to Fiber Optics, Tabary, and 3D Ropes, as mentioned above.
Another overlooked routine is Insomnia by Timothy Wenk. It's nice to show magicians who are familiar with Professor's Nightmare, but equally astonishing to laypeople. Cheers, Chris |

I love Tabary's routine. I can't recall a routine, ropes or otherwise, that impressed me more upon first viewing. It simply looks fantastic. Not overly flashy, but totally mysterious.

Well Daniel Faith thinks there is enough rope topics here at the magic Café, and I respectfully disagree, I just can't get enough rope magic, so members please make it your New Years resolution to make even more rope posts at this forum in 2007.
I JUST LOVE IT Al Angello

About 6 months ago I added Daryl's rope routine to my set. It always gets a great reaction. I don't do all the phases. I normally call it quits after the Prof. Nightmare sequence. I also do the Acrobatic Knot routine once in a while. I usually dig it out around Christmas, calling it the Candy Cane rope trick.

Prevously I mentioned how I put together Full Circle with Fiber Optics to make my own rope routine, well sometimes I add the second half of Daryl's Acrobatic knot routine to full circle for a great finish. I also like to do the Dennis Loomis knot routine with the second half of Daryl's Acrobatic knot in the middle. I added several other tricks to my routine so it would be different than Dennis's routine. HERRY CHRISTMAS Al Angello

Zimmerman did a version of the Neff Miracle
Rope in the seventies, that was very effective; instead of having the restoration so split second flash and over -- lay people can easily miss the miracle -- Zimmerman cut the rope into two pieces , then added red tape to one of the ropes , threw it up in the air and down came the taped rope all in one piece. Bigger kicker was taking the red tape off and rope was fully restored. More dramatic visually than it reads. The delay really pointed up the effect. From tape juggling to miracle restoration. Amazing in its impact. |

There's a great video of Flicking Fingers doing a very nice, easy to follow for spectators, rope routine. It makes a lot of sense.

The book they are talking about is a different edition (or possibly a complete rewrite) of the book that came out later. A lot of the Dover books are books that had their copyrights lapse and Dover snapped them up, for instance Dover's paperback Bobo is a reprint of the first edition, and does not have the added chapters from the hardcover. The same thing is true of Expert Card Technique by Hugard and Braue, there is a later edition containing a lot of material (much of it by Dai Vernon) missing from the Dover edition.

I love Tabary's "FISM Routine".... I am trying to learn the "CloseUp Routine" but seem to be getting nowhere..... Any advice on video instruction to go with it.... I know the FISM act is on the 2 DVD set but nothing is mentioned of the close-up routine.... Just in case, it is the routine done with knots.... I have the awesome book but need a little direction.......... JPV
