Hi all...
The wife and I have finally made the jump and are moving to Seattle at the end of July. (She's from there.) Anyhoo, I was wondering if you guys could fill me in on what the magic scene there is like. Any good magic clubs? IBM or SAM? What about good magic shops? I'm looking forward to hopefully meeting several of you and adding to the magic community. Thansk for your input! -Reis O'Brien |

Welcome!
Seattle has a very active and vibrant magic community. The biggest club in the area is the Lynnwood Ring of Fire which meets every second Thursday at the Blue ridge Fire Department in Lynnwood (a few miles north of Seattle). We have one magic shop in the Pike Place Market which caters mainly to tourists. It is usually quite busy and there is no place for magicians to hang out in it so it's pretty much a go in, grab what you need, and beat it kind of place. Tony Comito, a former native of Chicago works there on Fridays. Or at least he used to. I haven't been by to see. there are two monthly free shows given at two local bookstores on the second and third Mondays of the month. One is located in Ravenna's Third Place Books and features close up and platform performers while the other, in Lake Forest Parks Third Place Books takes advantage of the full fledged stage in that venue. Both shows are always in need of performers and while it doesn't pay it is a great place to work out new material in front of an appreciative audience. To the south is Tacoma which too has an IBM ring though I don't know where and when they meet. The Seattle ring is now more or less defunct though I've heard that the remnants of the group still gets together now and then. There is a Tuesday night Jam session at Tom Franks place in West Seattle where all the finger flingers meet but he is moving to LA about the time you'll be getting here so I'm sure that this group will go back to meeting at the Denny's in South Center or someplace else. We have a yearly Day of Magic which usually takes place in the fall and the Tacoma Group has their Mecca of Magic sometime around this time of year. The PCAM will be in Victoria this year, a two hour ferry ride from downtown Seattle. This is in August and has a great line up this year.

Wow, Payne! That's a lot of great information! Thank you!
I've checked out the shop in Pike Place and quite frankly, I'm a little sad to hear that it is the only shop in town. Oh well. These free shows sound great! That is exactly what I need to get out there and perform and hopefully meet some of the magic crowd in my new home. I'm looking forward to the move. Maybe I'll see you around? Again, thanks for all the information, Payne! -Reis O'Brien |

I would like that! The more magicians I can meet, the better.

Okay Seattle area magicians.... I'm now living here and looking for a chance to meet some of you. I'm still diggin' the coffee meet-up idea.

Magic Monday at Ravenna Third Place Books is on the 11th and the Lynnwood meeting is on the 14th. Plenty of magi at these two events
