Dear magic friends!
I do a newsletter 4x a year for my fan club of Harry Anderson the magician. I was wondering if I could get some help from you all concerning his magic tricks, ability etc... Can you please take time to answer 5 questions for an article I will be writing in the next issue of my Harry Fan Club newsletter? I will be compiling answers to rate what magicians think about Harry. Here they are, and thanks for your help. Any questions please e-mail me at harryandersonfan@yahoo.com ------------------------- 1. What trick routine/illusion do you feel Harry is MOST noted for? 2. What category or "type" of magician would you classify Harry Anderson as? 3. Which is the easiest illusion of Harry's one can perform? 4. What is the most impressive illusion/trick that you have seen Harry perform? 5. Would/Will you visit Spade and Archer (his magic and curiosities shop) in New Orleans in the future? Thanks for your time! Ellen harryandersonfan.com |

1. Needle through Arm and other "Geek Effects". I would also say that Harry isn't really known for his effects, but the character he protrays. That's what makes Harry... Harry. The effects he does all help to protray the character... not the other way around. He's a master at that.
2. While Harry uses "magic" techniques to achieve his goals, he protrays himself more as a scam artist. There is nothing "magical" about him... you know he is going to take you to the cleaners (for fun), no matter what he does. I guess most of us would classify his act as a comedy magic act, but that really doesn't do it justice. 3. While I have purchased some of his effects, I don't do any of them; so I wouldn't be a good judge for this question. I will say that none of his effects are easy to do as well and entertainingly as Harry does them. 4. Eating "Skippy" on Saturday Night Live. I thought I was going to die laughing. I wish I had a copy of that tape!!! 5. If I ever get back to New Orleans I'd definitely stop by. While I've met Harry a couple of times, he wouldn't know me from the man on the moon, but we have some mutual friends. Hope this helps you. Steven

1. Needle thru arm followed closely by his jumbo card effect, Monarch Monte 2. comedy for sure 3. He has many marketed effects. The easiest to perform might be Mish Mash Card. It is all presentation. Monarch Monte is effective if one practices the moves. And he has a number of items related to poker deals, including Rough Readers, which are excellent and within the grasp of serious comedy magicians. 4. Harry's most impressive effects are the pure hilarity he creates during his live act. I have yet to see TV capture the fun of his live, one on one show, with the crowd. Needle Thru Arm he has taken to heights of entertainment and hilarity. 5. If I visit New Orleans it is a given. quack |

1) I think that he is most known for the Needle Through Arm routine.
2) Comedy Magic....although Harry would prefer to have it referred to as "Geek Magic" 3) I agree the easiest "no-brain" effect would be the Mish Mash Card 4) My personal favorite Harry Anderson routine is his Buffalo-Bill/Cuff Links routine. A great twist on a burned bill to impossible location with so many different facets. A good solid ten minutes worth of magic and hilarity. 5) Can't wait to get to New Orleans. #1 priority on my list to do while I was there. |
