Hi Joan
The answer to your question is that the CP II and the Cobra Sharpie have been compared by friends of mine and I have been reliably told that both have Identical ranges and pick up distances. The difference is that the electronics are fitted into a working sharpie and when the non writing end is pointed at or placed near to a magnet the other end vibrates silently letting you know that it has detected a magnet. Both items will do the same job the difference is that you would casually use the pen as an impromptu pointer, for example when using the Scorpion I would write the numbers 1 to 4 on the top of each cup with the Cobra Sharpie and then casually point to the back of each cup with the Cobra whilst explaining that 'in a moment I will point to each cup and ask you if the makabishi is under that particular cup please answer yes each time and I will work out from your body language which one it is under' Having gained the information that I need I then casually put the pen away and then point using my completely ring and watch free hand!! Your left clean as a whistle. I have fooled many magicians and mentalists who had no idea how I knew where the scorpion was because they never suspected the pen!! Its simply a matter of personal preference, Both CP II and the Cobra Sharpie work well and are quality products. Dr john

I would like to mention that the CPII has a battery that is easily changable. The sharpie, as I understand it, has to be returned to the manufacturer. Not a major point but one that should be noted.

Hi,
I'm sure that both are great products and only use depends on routining/style of the mentalist. But, I has made a decision: I has bought the CPII Regular model and Dress model directly from Ron (mrmagic0). Yes, I bought both models. I love his design! The main reason is the battery replacement. I don't like the idea of dependance of manufacturer replacement. Thanks to all of you for your reviews and help to decide! Best regards. Joan |

I have ordered my dress version a few weeks ago, and will post a review as soon as I get it. Can't wait - I value sean's word on this. Best, David.

Hi all
Agreed the pen does need to go back to MOZ but the battery lasts several months with constant use and because Moz has had to manufacture a fair amount of these he is now doing a straight swap with a brand new Cobra Sharpie when users send there old one in for a battery replacement. He's only charging a few quid for this service (mainly postage charges). Obviously this may be a concern for users outside of the UK but moz's turnaround on this is only a day or two. The unit also comes with a full one year warranty and a password protected download of the Cobra Manual. The main difference is that the Cobra is a pen not a watch so it opens up a lot of different ideas which can't be done with a wrist strapped unit. You also get the Cobra Manual which I wrote with help from several contributors including upcoming routines from Greg Wilson, Paul Daniels, marc Spellman and many others. The current manual currently runs to 15 A4 Pages and has a half dozen full routines including some nice ideas for using the pen as an impromptu stooge maker for coding a spectator on stage to answer questions correctly. As I said before I'm not knocking the CPII its just different to the Cobra in its usage and although its a good unit many Full time Pro mentalists and magicians have expressed a preference for The Cobra because of its impromptu nature and flexibility. Best Regards Dr John

My only complaint with CPII is the watch band itself, its too big for me! No way to adjust it any smaller, which renders it useless for me.

My Child's Play II Stealth met all expectations. The dress watch is a quality watch. It's the first "magic" watch that I've bought that actually looks like something I'd wear. I need to get the battery replaced (hopefully that's all that's wrong. It DID work upon arrival over a year ago.)
The Relic ring/pk ring achieve the same result though and for my purposes (just use for Becker's Psychometric Coins and a version of Banachek's Ring of Truth using the Relic), ANY of the above work ok. I recommend the marbles ($8) from Ron's site, which are useful for a Kurotsuke-type effect. |

I was asked to post pictures of both models of CPII. Here they are. Thank you for the continued interest in CPII

I was also asked if the watches were real functioning watches. Both are indeed real watches with many extra functions such as duel time, day, date, alarm, stopwatch and more. I thought that posting information here would help with the many PM's

I have stated before that I am very pleased with CPII, and note that any jeweler can easily change the battery when needed. Since I live in the US, this is preferable to needing to ship the Cobra to the UK (which I have not used for this reason alone).

The dress model is available in brown or black bands too.
Bogart, I am happy to hear that you are pleased with your CPII. One of our goals in using a watch was the fact that it was an everyday item which would bring no suspicion, as well as easy maintenance. I have found mine to be quite versatile because of the number of different types of routines you can do with it. |

Well, I have wanted CPII for a while and I took the plunge and ordered one. Man I can't wait. I also purchased both Scorpion and Relic. I had purchased a routine called "Beswitched" I had changed the routine by using a G2 ring but I bet it will run even better using the CPII as with the G2, you had to get real close, almost touching the cauldron.
I am very new to all this, can you guys recommend or direct me to a book or DVD that would have give me more ideas for routines using the CPII? Thanks, The CiscoKid |

Larry Becker's Psychometric Coins from Desert Brainstorm Vol 1 is one I like. It's pretty straightforward and requires no sleights, just a relic/pk ring or CPII.

Find 4 or 5 large caps from bottles. I actually use some small tupperware style caps I found at the grocery. They fit some small plastic containers. I think there were 5 to a bag. As a spectator to place the Listerine packet under one and mix them up. I then ask them to place a bandanna over the caps so I can not even get a hint which cap has the Listerine. As I wave my hand over to get an idea where the caps are I get a reading using my CPII. I Can then tell them which cap the Listerine is under.

Well, I purchased this earlier in the week and had it by Friday. What fantastic service.
The watch is a beauty. Fantastic work guys! And it works as advertised. I actually jumped right in and used it on a few cast members at a theatre I run (We are doing the play Enchanted April) after the performance. I used the listerine packet. One person pulled the shove it in a back pocket move. But I had already told her she was not telling the truth so all worked out. Worked like a charm. NO heat on the watch at all. It is so ordinary and expected, that there was no connection made. Except one person did comment on my new watch. I also bought the marbles, and dug around the prop room for a nice bag for them. Found an old black bag shaped purse. Four white, one black. I would appreciate any ideas for routines. I know this is as old as the hills, but I have never seen anyone perform it. I am performing for a haunted mansion fund raiser on Halloween, and want to work that in. I think that the perception of the sound it makes has more to do with our body combining the vibration with sound waves -- as we can feel them. I thought at first it was loud, but put on a pillow and dashed a marble next to it -- and verified that it is indeed subtle. For a hobbyist like me, this utility device will open up a few new avenues to explore. I also purchased The Scorpion a few weeks ago, and have not drive-tested it yet. Putting a lot of thought into it though, and will review how it goes over on Halloween. Thank you guys for the great fast service. And more so for the GREAT idea and thinking behind this. I do not have a lot of money to spend on this, I try to keep my spending equal to my earning doing magic. This was at my high end -- but I think it will prove to be worth every penny. Daniel Weston |
