I need to develop a set-up to "zap" myself by sticking a screw driver into a fake light switch. I will welcome any suggestions for the flash (already thought about a small amount of flash paper). Also am looking for a cheap means to develop static so my hair will rise if there is such a thing... Thanks!

Flash paper or flash cotton would work great for an electrical "shock". I have a finger flasher and load it up with flash cotton and I have shocked many homeowners when I say "this electrical outlet looks a little loose". I then ignite the cotton with a flick of my thumb and watch them jump! I think a Funken Ring could work as well, but I don't have one and never used one so I'm unsure.

For the static hair, keep in mind that the effect will show up better in dry climates. You will also need a rubber mat to stand on so you don't discharge yourself. As far as genererating enough static electricity to make your hair stand up, I'll leave that to the experts. It can be dangerous if not done properly.

Hmm... not sure I'd use flash paper / cotton for this sort of effect on its own, as this would produce a small fireball, rather than a jet of sparks. You'd get a flash, which would be like the intensity of a bulb blowing, but, for dramatic effect I'd probably suggest a Funken Right, or anything else capable of sparking.

I'd say the best place to buy a Funken Ring is one that carries them... Smile

After Googling:

Don't forget Jarle Leirpoll's quick info on the care and feeding of the Funken Ring:

Dear Ruaturtle,

ask the next pyrotechnician (at the next theatre) for an "electric flash". The smallest size will do (size of small thumbtip). You will have to ignite it electrically, but this is more safe (for your health and your performance). Maybe you can even use the screwdriver to connect the 1.5/4.5/9 volt battery to it!
