Hi all,
Not sure whether I am correct to post this topic here. As I am new to magic, I would like to join project magic. Firstly, I can gain valuable experience for a beginner and of course do a part for the chaity. Any guys out involved in Project Magic before? For e.g. 1. What are the reqirements for joining PM? 2. Is it performing close-up or on a bigger scale? Any other valuable feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks

Project Magic was designed to help those with certain disabilities, particularly to do with the fine motor movements of the hands, as well as things like arthritis etc.
It uses CLOSE-UP techniques of sleights, palming and so forth to "re-train" the hands. Of course there are the obvious benefits of a patient, particularly young children being able to create magic and being amazed at their own abilities. If you are interested you can contact Project Magic in the US on 1-785-270-4613 or by post: Project Magic c/o The Kansas Rehabilitation Centre 1504 S.W. 8th Street Topeka, KS66606 U.S.A. Hope this helps you. Matt |

I know you're from Singapore, but you are still better off contacting their head office by mail. They will have info on hospitals in your country that are participating in the scheme, or else tell you how to go about setting one up if there are no participating hospitals or clinics. There may be a regional office in Singapore but you might have to contact the US one to find out where it is.

Is this the same Project Magic that David Copperfield promoted about 17 years ago?
I got involved in about 1984, for a little while. I took the challenge to work the Jackson Rehabilation Center for the Blind, in Jackson, Mississippi. This may not have been the type venue they had in mind, but I saw the possibility that it might work well. Some were not totally blind and could enjoy parts of the magic that others couldn't. But the main focus was on helping them learn something new, that they might enjoy spending their time with, and to feel good about themselves. Steve |

Hey Steve,
Yeah, it's the charity set up by DC, but while they provide a lot of good guidance on the benefits of certain types of effects and manipulations, don't let this constrain you. Magic should always be about the enjoyment of others, and if you just want to go and entertain some kids in an apartment building that have no place to play, or an old folks home, or anyplace where a touch of magic is missing, you don't need David Copperfield to tell you that's a great idea. Watching magic is fun, learning to create magic yourself is amazing... nobody forgets that. I wish we could all stop thinking about money just for a day or a week and take part in this kind of activity - I think we'd all be better for it. Keep it up everyone. Matt |

Magic is not all about making money into pockets. We are blessed with a healthy mind and body to perform magic, and I hope we can all spread our love and magic to those unfortunate.
