Just wanted to share the news with my Café friends that I was recently ordained and licensed as a minister (that's why I haven't been on the magic scene much lately)! While I have been filling that role at my church for some time now, thanks to it being finally made official I am now able to officiate at weddings, get special visitation privileges at hospitals, prisons and other institutions, etc. I'm very excited about this as it is something I have been working toward for quite some time, and it is great to finally have the license hanging on my wall.
Many of my friends here at the Café have been very supportive of me in this pursuit, and I want to publicly thank all of you now. So, thanks!

Gosh, I did that years ago. Did it for a radio station where I was working mornings, so I could officiate weddings. I did marry a couple at a Wendy's drive thru one morning, live on the air, on a Valentine's Day...I think it was 1997.

Getting your Marry and Bury was a great highlight for a lot of ministers. Congrats and be one of those educated Ministers like the rest of us about magic and let people have some fun!
Congrats again and God Bless you in your ministry +T |

Congrats Scott! I am proud of you! As Steve said, you da man!
Hey, kill two birds with one stone. You can wed the couple, then do walk around at the reception! Just kidding. But think of all the inquiries you'd get. Brian |

...and that's exactly where I was ordained, but it was way back before you could do it online! Cards and certificates are on display in my Studio.

However, I take some satisfaction from knowing that I earned it through study, time, effort and ministry and that my congregation and leadership thought enough of me (after knowing me for quite some time) to bestow the honor on me. If my sole reason for being ordained was just to make a few extra bucks doing weddings, I would have gone the Internet route.

Congratulations Scott for a calling answered and properly addressed. I’ll bet you thought that the classes would never end. Now the real learning begins. Good luck in this my friend.

Congratulations! I've got a great deal of respect for anyone who puts in the dedication that is needed to earn their ordination, as well as the spiritual commitment that is necessary. I hope you gain a lot of satisfaction and happiness from of this new role in life.

You did the right thing, and went about it the right way. With me, it was more just for the radio gig, and the novelty of having the certificate on the wall at the station, and the ability to do the weddings. No money for me.

Scott,
Good luck. You'll need it. As a priest's kid of 27 years (today), I can offer you one bit of advice -- be VERY careful who you trust. AND...read this book... amazon.com It will give you an idea of what's out there for clergy. Robert

Several years ago, the fellow who owns the Texas Renaissance Festival came up to me in his office and said, "Hey, Mers! This Episcopalian priest who does our weddings takes himself too seriously. He won't do certain ceremonies. If I make you a JP (he is also the mayor of the town the festival is in), will you do them?"
I told him, "George, if you make me a JP, I have to have a Todd Mission address. I'll go on line and become a ULC minister." "Is that legal?" "Yep! In every State." So I did. Then I sent off for their "Ministry in a Box Kit" which has the various ceremonies. Among the things I received were a list of religious titles I could purchase for the low, low price of only $5.00 each. Among them were Pope, Cardinal, Archbishop, Archdruid, every one you could think of. At the time they did not offer Jedi Knight, because that was protected. Now, I believe you can get that one as well. The prices have also gone up to $15.00 each. I sent off for Priest and Rabbi. So now, I am a Priest, a Minister and a Rabbi. Every time I walk into a bar, it's a joke.
