Hi,
does anyone know WHO invented the escape hanging from a burning rope?

I think it was Moretti. Am I right?

Thanx!

I've seen discussions, and don't recall any of the names, except that Hans was not one of them.

He's been a brilliant showman, and a prolific inventor. Is he still alive?

I met a gentleman with the surname 'Cash' who performed a burning rope strait jacket escape in Melbourne Australia during the 1930's. Mr Cash used two ropes, each tied to seperate ankles and was hoisted up with them both burning. One would always burning thru first which would allow him to swing free on the last rope.
He told me about his feat about 10 years before I saw Copperfield do it with three ropes. Nothing is new.

Although Copperfield was definitely not the first, his presentation was beautiful.

in a strait jacket escape was at San Francisco State College
in 1959.

I believe Copperfield was inspired by Alan Alan. If you remember back to one of cCopperfield's early specials, Alan Alan was aguest and performed a chain escape from a burning rope.

Have you seen Robert Gallup’s (I think it was him) burring rope escape he used a 6 rope tie arms crossed in from of chest a la straight jacket style. Then was pulled up to 1000000 foot (ok I’m exaggerating) and three ropes held him up. They burn through each in success and each time he gets a little lower. Nice set up looked great. Only the last rope burnt through a second after he got on to the safety wire (which after the 2nd rope burning was at exactly the correct height! Wink wink). The timing has never ceased to amaze me! It’s interesting to watch in slow replay! Not 100% kosher I think – but can’t be 100% sure. Very entertaining though.

This escape can never be sure! It is in my opinion one of the most dangerous stunts you can perform, even if you use gimmicks.
I had two very hard accidents (1992 in Denmark, 1996 in Germany), although I had a lot of experience.
>Still, this is not my personal favorite, concerning my inner feelings when I do it

Please use caution if you do this.

No doubt it is one of the most dangerous stunts in magic, probably second only to the bullet catch. Ace Stary had a list on his site of the very few people he could find who have done this stunt, including himself.

Who would you trust to put an escape like this for a publicity stunt? How much would it cost?
