I received it this magazine this morning, this is a GOLDMINE !!! There is everything in it, lockpicks (loooooots of them) and how to use them, how to open padlocks, bank safes from inside, handcuffs, ropes, chains, straight jacket, jail locks, and so much more ... I am so happy I got it
Why isn't anyone making a book of this (with some more pictures maybe) it would be the ultimate escape artist book... |

You are right this should be at least reprinted.
However, the copyright is still owned by Genii magazine. I don’t think that they see that there is enough interest in escapes to up date and reprint it. Copies of the magazine are available even if they are a little difficult to find. They sell for around $60.00. Not bad for 50 pages of great thinking on escapes. I doubt if any escape book compares with the thinking and advice given in “Steranko’s World of Escapes”. I agree that it could be the basis of the ultimate escape book. Genii also published an issue that is Steranko on cards. He was a gifted close-up card worker through the 1960’s. He published at least one book on card magic. He was also a gifted and accomplished musician. His main love was art and there is where he ultimately made his living and reputation. Interestingly, Jim Steranko is still alive and is still a working artist, specifically a comic book or graphic novel artist. He left magic for the arts decades ago. I suspect that many of you have seen his artwork without really knowing who he was and what an interesting and varied history he has. He was honored at the 2003 “DragonCon” in Atlanta Georgia. See a photo and write up of his speech at: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Nebula/8650/kindness.html One of the things that marked all of Jim’s work was his amazing illustrations. For example check out the link to some of the artwork from the Genii issue on escapes at: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Nebula/8650/esc2.html and from his card work: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Nebula/8650/cards.html In fact explore the whole Art of Steranko web site: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Nebula/8650/ And specifically check out this page that shows you his escape and card art: http://www.geocities.com/tony_robertson_99/aghp.html The man has become almost a mythic figure in escapes and for those in the know his Genii issue is highly prized and sought after. I have pristine copies of both his escape and card magic issues in my collection and would not part with either. I have a second well worn and reviewed copy of the escape issue that I refer to often.
The artist formally known as Mumblepeas!

I scanned the magazine and printed it to read it, and left the original in my bookshelf
