Hello, I just recently bought a thumb tip from my friend and I have been having a problem with it. The problem I have is that not much fits in it. I currently don't have a hankerchief but ive used cloths that are used for cleaning glasses, and it fits in the tip but I don't have place for my thumb to go in. Am I doing something wrong or is the thumb tip just small?
--Thanks D5 |

Get a proper hank. That should fix it.

Oh I see, thanks but is this the probem or is my TT to small for my thumb?

No, it's the cloth. The cloth you used is very thick and it will take up the whole TT. You need a small square silk hank that you can buy very inexpensively at Penguin.

Or anyother magic dealer. If you have a local shop I'd go in person, so you can pick the right one out.

Also, get a red/orange silk rather than a blue/green one. The TT will be slightly translucent and blue may look a little unnatural through the plastic if you flash it. (Yes, I know you ought to be able to use a strobing plutonium tip if you know what you are doing, but to start with you might as well make it easy for yourself)

Get one of Jay Scott Berrys' dvds on the TT. Simply the best with a TT I have ever seen.

Why do you want to do a silk in TT effect anyway? There are sooo many better effects out there. Get Darwin's Encyclopedia of Thumb Tip Magic, it's definitely one of the best, if not the best, resource out there for TT magic.

I looked into Encyclopedia of Thumb Tip Magic, and I think I'll end up getting it. Thanks Casual =P

A TT doesn't have to look just like your actual thumb, because if you are a half decent magician, you should be able to deal with it right. But when it comes to size, its all up to what you feel comfortable with, and what you can slide on/off easily, and get stuff into. But by the sounds of it, the "Silk" you are using is too big. Get an ACUAL silk, made just for a TT. That should work better. And if you are interested in thumb tip stuff, I suggest checking out Gary Darwins "Encyclopedia of Thumb Tip Magic' You can get it at penguin. Good luck with your journey in magic. -Cory. |

Oh, I just saw that somebody already recommended that gem.
But those DVD's are pure gold. Another voter for Darwins Encyclopedia of TT Magic! |

You use salt to vanish a silk?

I think he meant vanishing salt instead of silk.
For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, none will suffice.

There's a very good version with the salt and TT in David Williamson's DVD. The use of the TT is not so obvious as in the "hand to hand" effect

I wonder if David Williamson has any thoughts on vanishing salt using a tt?

One of the reasons to be sure and study the information suggested, Darwin, et.al., is that at first, many will make the mistake of placing it over the entire thumb. This may or may not be what you are trying to do, you do not say. The device should not go past your thumb knuckle. at first it seems wierd, but if you will just wear it around for a day or more, empty, nothing in it, you will get used to it, and how to handle it, and see how few people actually look at it, unless you do first! You will also be able to practice putting it on and off in one hand, with all fingers, one finger, etc.
It will not be long before you start thinking of things to put into, or take out of your closed hand! Good luck to you Kay

If a suitable TT is not available, how about pull? At least you can vanish the silk once successfully.
