One great borrowed ring routine was featured in Genii's 1977 Magicana section called (Flight of the Phoenix).
Shows what a great showman and performer Ron is. A borrowed ring and a marked dollar bill vanishes and found in a nested jewel chest. The marked bill is rolled up and held together by the ring. The Magicana was a source for great routines from the best in those days. I still do that routine today. Richard. |

Flight of the Phoenix is also given in Rons's book, The Uncany Scott, still one of the best books for highly commercial, platform magic. As you say this is a great trick. For a good size audience, Ron's version is ideal. However, for a smaller audience, I do a version where there is no switching of the rings, which is necessary if the audience is close to you. I still love Ron's patter where he borrows the ring and then proceeds to auction it off to the highest bidder, starting and ending at one dollar. Then the donated ring and donated dollar disappear and then reappear together in an impossible location.
Finally, I highly recommend the Uncany Scott--one of the best magic books ever published. Good luck.
