I think Boo asks a valid question. I purchased a deck of Strippers in Bicycle and the 'stripper' was so noticeable and sharp, you could stab someone with it! They went in the bin!

I think using a trick deck requires a deck you are suin most time in general. so it might be suspicious if you work all the day long with bikes and then pull out another deck. or is there any dealer who seels such extremely craftret stripper decks you told about with bike backs? that would be awsome!

Memory-Jah, at this level of fine-cut stripper deck, you can get them in whatever back design you want. There's no limits because they're all custom made, usually to order.
As I said before, you're not going to find these at a magic store or at an online magic shop. They're going to come from a custom card gaffer like: http://www.cardsbymartin.com/products.htm |

Thanky ou for the link. but there thebikes costs only $10. is that the super thin, not noticeable stripper version you talked about? or are there anywhere else really high end strippers?

Cards by Martin is a great supplier at $10.00 for a fine cut hand made stripper deck.
The next step after that is N Strippers, but Hustlers don't have web sites. The finest cuts are available to those folks who have the skill and tools to make their own. |

However, they are still what a person who actually works with altered cards a lot would call a medium cut. For most of us, that's good enough. I got some belly strippers at Joe Stevens a couple of years ago that are really nice. Auke van Dokkum now makes a card stripping gadget that won't break the bank and allows you to make your own belly strippers. They require a very light touch to work with, though. If you plan to cut your own cards, Joe Porper's card cutter is the way to go.

Also, I don't think it has been mentioned in this thread yet, keep in mind a good stripper deck should also have the corners re-rounded.

Thanks Bill. I think 'Bellys' are the way to go.

I once read that a good way to trim the corners is with a pair of fingernail clippers.

FYI: Jay Leslie from the House of Enchantment will make a stripper from any deck to any specifications for $25. At least that was the price a few years ago. I have a deck almost undetectable even with the card reversed. Probably overkill but I put together a sit down cardsharp routine that took several minutes. It gave me the extra confidence to stand up to the sharpest eye and people in the know. Rick

Cards by Martin per the advice of some forum members seems to be the best.

OK OK
I have a question How much free time do you have to have to make a $5 stripper deck?

Comparing a $5.00 stripper to a $40.00 or $50.00 handmade stripper is really comparing two completely different types of deck, with two completely different types of use.
But......I've said it before and here I go again. ALL normal Bicycles are cut off centre, how much is just a matter of degree. Cutting your own strippers on the "wide" margin will actually even the cards out and make them appear completely square to the design on the back of the card. Since the wide margin has to be examined by eye card by card, this simple tactic can't work with a machine cut deck. Simply put, a Line-Lo (or Porper if you're loaded!) cutter and a careful trimming job followed by a re-rounding of all corners will exceed by a wide margin ANYTHING you can buy off the shelf. If the off-the-shelf Bicycle strippers suit your needs, then you're laughing and in no need of gearing up to make handcrafted strippers. |

Hi Silverking,
I notice you mention N Strippers or 'negative' stripper. This type of stripper deck is described in detail in Sal Piacente's new Poker Cheats DVD's although I believe he refers to them as 'in strippers' which is not the same thing. Also, the book Sharps and Flats by John Maskelyne published in 1896 has a great cutting tool for creating N Strippers. It looks like they have been around for a long time. They are extremely deceptive if VERY difficult to handle and the deck is almost microscopically examinable. However, I'm not sure what the application to magic would be over above the easier to handle strippers and belly's? Regards, Paul H |

I always feel uncomfortable talking about N-Strippers, as hustlers are quite determined to keep them from being widely tipped.
But an "N-Stripper" and an "In-Stripper" are two different things. The device in Sharps and Flats, as well as one made by Auke Van Dokkum can be used to make "In Strippers", or "Belly Ins" which are both exactly the same thing. You couldn't make "N-Strippers" with the rig in Sharps and Flats, at least without making a major modification. Most hustlers (at least the ones I know) make N-Strippers by hand, without using any major mechanical devices. |

Some of you might find the decks of cards I sell interesting as an alternative to a tapered stripper deck.
Go to http://alansands.com/store/georgesands/ and look at my web site. My father manufactured belly strippers to a very high tolerance. They would only be good for one effect with the pre-sorted deck, when used as a belly stripper - but they will do the trick! Someone in another post described belly strippers using parenthesis.( ) - )( - that would be accurate, but of course exaggerated. My late father, George Sands, stood next to a machinist and had a custom die made to make an excellent precision deck of cards for two effects he created using them. If you buy the straight (full) decks, when you sort them you end up with two decks that do the same routine (just opposite of each other in the way they are cut and sorted) so one can buy two decks and sort their own tricks one concave and one convex deck), or I sell the pre-sorted decks for the two routines my dad did with them. I like to describe them as: One deck is shaved like a woman's body or hourglass, the other deck is shaved like a man's body. To detect the gaff, you have to really look for it and hold the cards up to the light to detect the shaved edges. They are extremely well made. George had been a machinist once so he knew what was possible and was very particular about having them made so precisely. Check them out 100% money back guarantee |

Wedge strippers are generally terrible and easy to detect.
Belly strippers are good. Porper sold a machine to make belly strippers, etc. http://www.porperoriginals.com/misc_rounder.htm N-Strippers are best. VERY deceptive....and next to impossible to detect. But, the jig to make them is expensive (But, less expensive than the Porper trimmer)....the Porper trimmer is not good to make N-Strippers. NOTE: N-Stripers are overkill for most magicians unless they are doing gambling expose routines. I hope this makes sense.
