I got this from Hocus Pocus a while back.
I`ve been also looking for a review on this on the Café to no avail,so here is my own. The blindfold received is made of thin metal, black in colour and utilizes the same principle as Osterlind`s Metal blindfold, only a lot less in quality. The peek done is clear and the blindfold fits it`s purpose well.provided in the package is also some surgical tapes, dough,a hood,a rope to tie the x-ray hood and a 1 page manuscript.Remember I paid a whopping USD125.00 for this. The blindfold. the blindfold as I said uses the same peek as Osterlind`s Blindfold.I for one have this, but seldom use this and use John Archer`s masking tape blindfold which I think is really convincing and the routine is very entertaining.Osterlind`s fits its purpose well, but IMO,only an `alien' or a `magicien' uses something like this to cover his eyes.I have to say that how Osterlind presents this in his Mind mysteries DVD is very good, and his reason to bring out the Metal blindfold is also valid. The quality of the blindfold in the package is a lot less compared to Osterlind`s. The hood. The hood is black in colour, and unless your head is the size of Shrek,it`ll fit nicely on your head with a lot of extra room. The hood uses one of the principles in Corinda`s 13 Steps to Mentalism. It can be made by a tailor, but IMO,the quality is good.I have nothing to compare it too but the hood works well and as stated. It`s not a new principle and not examinable. There is a way to put the hood on a spectator and making the spectator can`t see through it. On the manuscript. One page for the hood and another small portion of a page for the blindfold.1 and 3/4 page of instructions.Suprisingly the instructions were well written and a blindfold drive routine was explained.Allthough in my opinion, the routine was quite lame, but It just might work...`MIGHT'.A reputation maker as it was said in the small instruction page. Conclusion Don`t get his if you are new to blindfolds.I`m not, and have been going through a lot of sources for the past time.I`ll make use of the Hood definitely, and Osterlind`s blindfold or Archer`s Masking tape blindfold.Of all,I`ll still stick to Archer`s(which is a pain to do,since you`re pulling masking tape out of your hair)because of it`s entertainment value.Get,Physic Sight by Jack dean which explains kuda Bux blindfold, sightless vision by trickshop.com,Corinda and Archer`s blindfold DVD for extra knowledge. All I can say is that the blindfold and hood provided do what they are suppose to do,but for the price,I could have gotten better.Just my opinion. I totally agree with you. The blindfold is Dave Powell's metal blindfold, which I already own. The hood is roomy, but if there is any light source from the back, the secret becomes clear to the audience. I have several different hoods I have used during the years for blindfold drives, during stage routines, etc, and one I have works the same way as the HP one, but is made of black velvet like material, and back lighting is not a problem.
It is hard looking at the photo on the site, to know what you are buying, but in my opinion this set, with a piece of rope, tube of silly putty, and two pages of photocopied instructions (one for the blindfold and one for the hood), is not worthy of the steep price tag. You can assemble your own set (even if you buy 13 steps to go along with it) for cheaper. Just my two cents, and I have ordered from Hocus Pocus many times in the past, and have been very pleased with the products and service. Brent |

May I point out that the blindfold being discussed here does not use the same principle as my Solid Steel Blindfold, but uses a very old method that has been around for many years. The SSB, on the other hand, is actually legitimate and completely cuts off any vision.

Richard....
I have your blindfold as well. In fact, I just made the front page of the newspaper doing a blindfold drive with it. As usual, you are right, the Powell version IS NOT the same, and you really can't allow the spectator to wear that one, unlike the SSB, which is a very strong point, in my opinion. Brent |

Yeah,it`s my mistake,I din`t see the difference clear enough.
For the blindfold provided, you can NOT let the spectator put in ON otherwise the secret is revealed. As for Osterlind`s SSB,you can let the spectator put it on,and he can find nothing except smell stainless steel.=).Apologize for the mistake Mr.Osterlind.

And don't forget that for Richard's (as opposed to cloth or the cheap black metal imitations) it is entirely possible for you to ostentatiously spray the gleaming surgical-steel blindfold with Bactine and wipe it clean before you place it on your own (or the spectator's) head.
Thus you prevent transmission of colds, influenza, etc., while at the same time you provide justification for the blindfold's modern look, materials, and construction. |

I lost my SSB. I moved awhile ago and that thing vanished in the wind. I still blame my Borther in Law, but I think Richard had something to do with it.
I love that thing I need to replace it and I would suggest getting it over anything else I have played with. |
