I have a breakaway hammer. The head falls to the floor with a clunk when you hand it to your helper. I ham it up by saying that it used to belong to my great great grandad and its a family heirloom and act totally gobsmacked when it breaks.
Quite a nice prop, I carry it as a 'just in case' and only use it when I'm milking the comedy situation as I find the wand gets enough laughs on its own. Mark

I believe that there is / has been:
Break-away box (for vanishes) Break-away paint brush (from Practical Magic (UK) for magic painting effects. However, I don't think that you're really limited to props on the market- a lot of "breakaway" stuff can be accomplished by proper items, a fine saw and some chord / string / elastic. I do wonder just how many breakaway items you can use in an act before the novelty wears off, though? More than one would be pushing it for me, but, if you have a persona / act that suits, then, so much the better, I guess |

Thnak you guys!
I think I need one more break away object in my act just to fit the whole routine into it and not to lower the momentum of the audience when they are laughing and enjoying the things.. I think it fits my persona to use those break away props and it also helps me to make the audience feel that they are enjoying the magic show.. thanks!

There is a Breakaway Cap Gun if that would fit into your act, or you could use Breakaway Scissors.

Just a quick note about the break away cap gun... Not a good choice for School shows!!! Also you may want to let any parents know that you may use it during their private show. Sounds kinda stupid that you have to go to that extreme these days, but I've heard of some really awkward situations with this prop in particular. Hope this helps.

I'm using break away props in my kid shows, so I think the break away cap gun is not for me, I think having a gun in your show, shows and teaches violence to the child involve in the act, but theres an exception of course, I like using bang gun on my shows..
thanks!

Break away items are great in kids' shows if they suit your style. Throughout my show, most things don't seem to be going right for me as I'm doing my tricks (a la David Ginn's "magician in trouble syndrome"). The break away items are an extension of this.
I use the break away wand and break away fan in conjunction with my clatter box routine - an idea I first read about in the Stein and Day Handbook of Magic by Marvin Kay (a great read if you get the chance). I added the Flip Flop Table Top and some one liners, and the routine gets great reactions. The Flip Flop Table Top and Clatter Box are available from Hank Lee's. |

Hi there all,
There are many break apart items to be had for Example THE EGG TRAY CLATTER BOX BREAK PAN LEGLESS (BREAK APART STOOL} BREAK AND SNAKE TRAY LOOSE COVER BREAK APART GUN (YOU CAN USE THIS IF YOU DO A COMEDY ADULT SHOW} THE SHOT GUN And there are msany others which I cant think of at the moment. Just a point that most children play video games .....and the parents let them.......where they actually have to press a button to shoot a laser or gun or what ever to kill the enemy !!!!!!!so I do not think that a comedy gun in a children's show is too bad .....just a thought ! Derek.
Hope this helps. Creation is life

Check out Jolly Rogers really ridiculous wand. It is a terrific gag, better than any breakaway wands and more original. Beatifully made. Hand it to a spectator, and, after a short pause, it will start to bend. The pause makes it magical as well as very funny!! See my website for details...

PERFORM MAGIC AND NOT "PUZZLES" so the audience wont try to "figure out how its done".

I apologise. That should have read Really Ridiculous Rose! I am shortly releasing my Ridiculous Rabbit! Wand begins with "W" so that is unlikely to be in my range!
I have also just released Really Ridiculous Rattlesnakes....... |
