Check out the character development section in Doug Byrd's Bizarre Magick.com (www.bizarremagic.com).
It is done for bizarre but the methods will apply to any branch of magic. |

And the beauty of what Koz says is that "if you dont know where you are going, any road will take you there!"
But creating your character is a multifaceted issue. You need to understand yourself; your aspiration, cababilities and limitations, and know the audience; their temperment and interests. Most folks derive a base character from their own personna. It is either part of who they are, or part of who they would like to be, but cant in normal life. Then you shape and develop that character much as your real self is shaped and developed based on life experiences. BroDavid

I was quite a character when I started so no building or development was needed.

I'm a bit of a lecturer by nature, so I've found that I'm most comfortable performing as a modern version of a medicine show pitchman. No, not an infomercial host, but someone who expounds on the miracles of what he's doing. I open with Slydini Silks, so I get the audience involved right away.
"It's the amazing space-age fabric that does what it's told...so long as you know the language." OK, maybe I am an infomercial host, but I just want a buck or two from everybody, not $149.99 in three easy credit card payments. |

Can we use this? It sounds pretty good.

I just be myself and if they don't like it they shouldn't be watching my magic.

Any actor might say that. Once. |

You might consider changing the amount to $149.95, both because most infomercial prices end with a five instead of a nine, and because the "v" in "five" is pronounced at the front of mouth, making it easier for you to go from "v" to "in". If you try to say "ninety-nine" and then "in", you're alternating between sounds produced at the front and (close to the) back of the mouth and are likely to either stumble over your words or have them come out mushy. I loved taking linguistics classes in college. If I hadn't discovered the field so late in my career, I might have ended up doing that instead of political science. |

I was thinking of three easy payments of $39.95 since thats the one thats been on lately, but a bargain at any price.
