Someone posted this link on another forum we look after, and I thought I'd pass it on. This link will give you a map of the sex offenders near your home, their pictures etc. Put in your address and get ready to be shocked...

I put in my address and it didn't find me!
Opps, It's not supposed to find me. It's very interesting, two live, a couple of hundred feet away in a local motel!

What a BAD site. Though their hearts are in the right place, I entered the info for my town, where I know for a fact there are at least three registared sex offenders, and that site said there were none. That kind of mis-information could produce a false sense of security in a parent and lead to huge problems down the line. They should not be open for the public unless their information is compleat.

Holy Spit Mary!
I have three within an easy walk of here, and litterally dozens in my city. I guess being well informed is a good thing, but also ignorance is bliss. This kind of sucks, I have a 6 year old daughter.

How about all the ones on the sex registry that are not child molesters or predators? You know many were teenagers when it happened and a very small percentage are dangerous. So they are not all scumbags. I know many will disagree, but there are a lot of good people on the registry that should not even be on there. In Georgia the age of consent is 16. How would you feel if you were about 18 and had sex with a girl who was 15 and had to be on the registry? What if it happened to your son, nephew, or grandson? Don't be so quick to judge. Get the facts before you label someone.

The answer to that is simple--an 18 year old has no business having sex with a 15 year old. As you said, even in Georgia the age of consent is 16, not 15.
Yes, there may be a few who should not be on the list, and I feel sorry for them. But I am glad to know about the many who were convicted based on indisputable facts, many caught in the act and many of whom are repeat offenders. IMO, these people (proven repeat offenders) should not even be in society. They should have to spend the rest of their lives behind bars in either solitary confinement or hard labor. There is a reason that even in max security prisons the other inmates find child molesters vile and disgusting and treat tem with disdain...

What if she was 1 month from being 16 and he had just turned 18? Yeah, I know the law is the law and we should obey it, but some go too far. Up until a few years ago in Georgia it was illegal for a married couple to have oral sex. Should everyone who did it be on the registry? After all, the law is the law. Also, it is not uncommon at all for an 18 year old to be with a 15 year old. When I was in high school there were plenty of senior guys who had a freshman or sophomore girlfriend. Should they all be labeled molesters also? Take another example. Say a 19 year old guy meets a girl who claims & looks to be 17. Like any young normal guy he doesn't think to check her ID. They have sex and it turns out that she is 15. According to the law, he is still guilty. Should he be labeled a molester too? Yes there are many also who are sickos and they should be in jail. Children do need protected from these types of people. The number of people who fit that category are far fewer than most believe. Just ask anyone who works with and studies these people day to day. I know the chances of someone agreeing with me are slim because the fear of appearing to be "soft" on child molesters. |

Thanks for the link Mary. I also used http://www.nsopr.gov. I have a condo in Downtown Dallas and spend most of the year there. I'm well aware of the dangers surrounding those living in that Jungle but this amazed me! In my zip code alone, we have 235 registered sex offenders. I understand what Michael Leath means by "kids" making stupid mistakes but some of these 235 registered sex offenders are grown men who know what they are doing and have done time for "AGGRAVATED AND REPEAT OFFENSES!"
In looking at some of the offense details, time served, and general offense information, I did not know that you could be a repeat offender for aggravated sexual assault on everything from a 13month old baby to a 31 year male and still be walking the streets! Not to mention living just a few blocks from me. One of the preditors I came across has done time 3 times! |

It's easy to look at a picture of a grown man on one of those sites and not realize that it happened many years ago when they were young. Just something to think about before you label someone. As to the ones who are the sickos, they can rot in prison for all I care. |

By the way Randy (or anyone else), I wasn't saying that you were labeling the wrong people. I'm just making what I feel are some important points.

Yes I agree with you Michael. I do understand where you are coming from regarding a few very unusual and complicated cases who might not have warranted the lifelong title and record. It was some of the repeat offenders I saw in there. Even with lengthy jail time, some of them went on to do it again and again! Obviously such habituals have no control over this problem. Their victims could of been someone dear to me. I'm sure they were dear to someone else.
