Maybe they do NOT use the technology, I don't want to be in the middle of that debate ok?
BUT it is tough to argue that the technology does not exist today. It is here and it is cheap and it is portable. Between that and facial recognition technology, (which is my understanding they DO use) it is getting spooky. If you ask me to NOT realise this stuff is here and will be used in the future, the near future, well is turning a blind eye, or deaf ear, to progress. Again I am making NO arguement weather it is or is not used. ONLY stating that it is certianly well within the realm of possability, that the technology exists and eventually will be used.

With regard to casino surveillance and table games:
There’s no maximum but there is a minimum surveillance that the casino must have to get a licence and keep it. For example: The surveillance system of all licensees operating three (3) or more table games must possess the capability to monitor and record: (a) Each table game area, with sufficient clarity to identify patrons and dealers; and (b) Each table game surface, with sufficient coverage and clarity to simultaneously view the table bank and determine the configuration of wagers, card values and game outcome.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

MrZ,
I was referring to the five documented cases of dice scams involving gaffed dice that you mentioned in your post. I would like to read about them. |

"Ohio Sniper Arrested While Shooting Craps In Las Vegas
By Staff March, 18 The manhunt for the Ohio sniper ended today when police arrested Charles A. McCoy Jr in Las Vegas. McCoy was arrested while shooting craps in a Las Vegas Casino. Witnesses in the casino at the time of the shooting say McCoy was using loaded dice. For his part, McCoy denies the allegations that he was using loaded dice, and attributes his special die rolling abilities to experience and practice. "I can throw a seven from 500 yards, with my eyes closed", McCoy told authorities. Police would not comment on McCoy's claims, but did say preliminary results show the dice used in the shooting contained small quantities of lead. Police also say McCoy's shooting hand was examined by a forensic team and showed traces of a residue thought to be baby powder. Chief of Police Dan Roberts warned reporters that the investigation was still in its early stages, and not to draw any conclusions from the preliminary evidence. "Although we're confident we have our man, we have to be objective at this point of the game ...remember, this is one big crap shoot", said Roberts." :)

Hey folks...been away for a while (work and the WSOP have kept me quite busy)...but I wanted to relate a story I had on this topic...at least somewhat on this topic.
I was at a casino in Vegas last month for the WSOP and was having a quite bit between poker sessions in one of the resturants. Having read some of Frank Scoblete's works (including those on controlled dice throwing), I thought I recognized him having some food with a group of four or five others. I interrupted them to ask if he was, in fact, Frank Scoblete. He was. We got to talking for a minute and I was told I could follow them over to the craps table if I would like to watch. So, I did. It was amazing what I saw. I am not a craps player at all. But, three of these guys were actively playing (throwing). One of them went on about a 35 minute "rush". From what I saw and what I had read before, they set the dice in a particular manner and then throw them. Generally, they barely hit the back wall and then just "die". They weren't about hitting a specific number so much as hitting a specific range of numbers. And they were certainly making some money there. There were several times when each person was throwing that the dice did not hit the back wall. It was close, but they did not hit. Sometimes something was said (Sir, please make sure the dice hit the wall) sometime not. But I never saw any of the dealers at the table invalidate a throw. I am certainly not the expert on this subject that some here are, but what I saw then certainly proved in my mind that you can influence the outcome of throwing the dice. Just an observation.... Meijin,
If you like the "works" of Scoblete, you will also like the "works" of John Patrick. |

So at this point everybody agrees that:
- it is possible to control the dice under casino conditions, but only if the casino crew (i) is distracted or (ii) fails to enforce the rules and that even so - it is very difficult to control the dice under casino conditions; considerably more difficult than card counting, for example and that therefore - controlled dice play under casino conditions is rare, perhaps (extrapolating now) so rare as to be under the radar of casino mgmt Is this an accurate summary? |

Ronfour:
It is not liking the works of Scoblete so much as it was having an interest in some of the topics he was writing about. Additionally, as a published author, I like his writing style in his more narrative work. Michael

In practice I will take back any judgement made to abate the arguement. As for Franks writing, he is one heck of a story teller I will give him that. His writing style such as in "How to Beat the Craps Out of the Casino" is quite engaging indeed. Reminds me of my first post where I said there was a lot of CRAP written on the subject.

Anyone that does not even understand why you split the 8's against a face card does not get it and never will.
BUT we are talking about dice. And Frank Scoblete falls into that same catagory as a dice teacher goes.
