Hey all,
I favor magic with billiard balls. a lot of magicians who do billiard balls sometimes start to do something neat, then stop and say "but that is getting close to juggling, so I don't do that". drives me nuts whenever I hear that. so I'm collecting juggling tricks specific to small balls, like billiard balls. anyone have anything to contribute? tricks? sources? |

There is one old billiard ball trick that is a favorite. It is done with two billiard balls, and a black rubber ball with a #8 sticker on it. You do the regular cascade, throw the fake ball up and bounce it off your head while clicking the two real ones in front of you. If done right everyone thinks you have bounced a billiard ball off your head.

Check out Charlie Frye's Eccentricks Vol 1 for his take on the billiard balls with some nice moves. And if you could find someone who may have a tape of Topper Martin (I did but it has vanished) doing his juggling ball routine. An excellent example of how to combine juggling and magic into a great routine.
If you are using silicone billiard balls you could do some bouncing tricks. One great one that is hard to describe is to toos a ball straight up in the air. After it bounces and is on the way back up karate chop your flattened hand into the side of the ball. If using your right hand to do the chop you should propel the ball to the left but with a heavy dose of opposite direction spin on the ball. The desired result is for the ball to bounce to the left..have the side spin kick it out so it bounces to the right and finally returns home to your hand. Looks very cool and amazing when done well. Way cool.
I'm totally taking that trick Al, thanks. I just tried that karate chop trick, the ball spilled my drink on my important papers. but I'll keep trying. thanks for that, it sounds neat. yaknow, I haven't heard any magicians putting down juggling tricks since Charlie Frys dvd came out. go figure. |

The IJA was started at an IBM convention in 1948, but very few magicians apreciate the brotherhood.

You know.....if more jugglers worried about presentation like most magicians...and more magicians worried about technique like most jugglers....we might all be better off.

Dan Harky has a neat trick where he blows up a black balloon and suddenley he takes off the nozzle and the balloon has turnned into an 8 ball looks better than it sounds. Its on one of his videos look into it.
