I performed a dollar bill levitation tonight for the first time in public using loops. I really screwed it up as I couldn't hook up the bill correctly at first and then I dropped the loop from one hand before I made it all work.
What amazed me is that not only did I tell my spectator that I would probably not do the trick wrong, but I actually told him when I messed it up. (when I dropped the loop from one hand I said, "oh, see I already messed it up"). Not only did he not realize I messed it up but other people sitting near us started watching and commented on how cool the trick was. What I learned tonight is that what may seem obvious to us may be completely invisible to a layman (even if you tell them about it). So don't count out a trick even if you mess it up. Try to fix your mistake and continue. I also learned that levitations will make total strangers take a double take and pay attention to you. Wow, what a rush.

Congratulations, Afillius! I haven't worked with loops yet, but IT can give you that same rush -- heck, it looks magical to me while I'm doing it! I've seen other posters talk about doing effects for themselves. Your post finally got me to connect with what they're talking about.

I have been practicing with loops for about a week (Probably not quite long enough) but I have been practicing with IT in general for about 3 weeks (maybe a little longer)

OK, maybe you just need more time so you won't be screwing up... maybe three or more months before you show something.

Any0ne had problems with Penguin's new Loops? I found them much too delicate, they won't even move a dinner fork - they just break.
Who sells the best Loops ?

They don't know what to expect so they have no way of knowing if you are doing it right or not. You need to practice until you don't mess up but even then something can and will go wrong.... You need to be ready for this as it will happen. You need to continue on like nothing is wrong. If you can get back on track Great if not, smoothly move on to something else..... Just remember if you don't tell them something went wrong and you act like everything is just the way you planned it, the audience will not know the difference. kOnO

Yes I learned my lesson. I told him because I was positive he would see me 're-hookup' the loop, but he had no idea what I was doing.

I got some invisible stretch thread to make loops and couldn't tie a knot to save my soul... so I made a loop, crossing the material and put a drop of CRAZY GLUE on and VIOLA... perfect. Any one else ever try this?

Nope, but I will now because tying a knot on IT is tuff with my big hands.
Thanks for the tip |

I always make loops from MAK's 200 ft spool of thread. Easy enough to tie with some creativity and a few extra hands (or a bottle). Much Much Much cheaper than any pre-made loop and I've forgotten about them and found them on my wrist days later. (and yes I shower!)

I've purchased invisible elactic thread and made loops out of it. Not too difficult to do, and enough elastic thread to make at least one hundred loops or more. They are also very durable. I can keep them in good condition on my wrist for up to a week. I think I paid about 10 dollars for the stuff. A clear bargain- no punn intneded.
