Yes, but if you get it off you tube, you don't have the right to perform it, because you haven't paid for it.
Buy the DVD. Support the artist.

Bill,
This thread is two years old, so I'll pick up on it... Today I had the pleasure and privilege of spending some time with a wonderful magician, Gary Morton at Rich Bloch's Dickens Parlor Theater in Millville, Delaware, where Gary performed. After the show, we chatted with some of the theater operators and some of the audience in "The Parlour". As an aside, I'll plug Rich Bloch and the Dickens Parlour Theater again! What a wonderful experience! Rich and his theater are the cover story for February, 2011 Magic Magazine....so if anyone reading this is ever in southern Delaware, the Theater is open 52 weeks a year and is a pearl on the beacheas of southern Delaware; a delightful, enchanting experience! So, where am I going with this? After the show, and a short closeup performance by Gary, some of us disussed cups and balls and a youngster was showing Gary how he was trying to learn the basic routine. Gary showed us a partial routine of the Rubba dubba (or whatever it's actually called) patter and I was completely enchanted with it because as an aging, beginning performer, I'd love to learn it myself. Since you're the Cups and Balls Master, please....P-U-H -- L-E-E-E-E-Z-E let me know where I can purchase the routine and the rights to learn and perform it? I know it's the same routine because it does need five balls as mentioned above. I've Googled it and can't find it, but did find this thread! Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Bob in Lower, Slower Delaware.....
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

My new e-book, "Minimalism" contains my multi-color C&B routine. A second version uses the Rub-a-Dub-Dub patter (or a modified version of it anyway).

This is a dated thread , so I don't know if you are still searching for this routine. I don't know who "owns" it , or who originated it,
but Bob McCallister, a NYC pro and one of the stars of WONDER_RAMA many many years ago ,use to use the Rub-a-dub-dub routine...I first saw it robably 25 years ago at a kiddie party. If I can locate the video tape I will got down the patter. Bob was a very popular kid show magician in the NY area. He also sold magic, but I can not recall the name of his shop. Bob passed on too young , too soon. RIP. |

Tom, I've since found the routine in the Geni magazine as referenced in the second post to this thread.
As an aside, I was born and raised in NYC and Wonderama was a favorite TV show on Sunday morning for us kids. As I recall the host was Sonny Fox. I'm talking the late fifties, early sixties maybe? I don't remember Bob McCallister though. However,I do remember James Randi, better known as Amazing Randi appearing from time to time. I think he's still around. It was a great show for kids and it ran for four hours every Sunday morning from 8 am till noon.

I recently altered the introductory patter (per script purchased from Gene Gordon) so that it allows me to use the line that I really think is funny for some reason that I can't explain...which is..."I can keep going until you think it's funny." It may not fit your style but it works for me. Here is the modification. The first two statements are from the original patter:
"So, here is my little saga of the sea...a rhyme about once upon a time...a mariner's tale about three guys who set sail...a story about three blokes in their boats...a bit of slap-stick using three balls and this plastic" (handling also slightly modified to make sense with the last comment). I don't always have to go through the entire sequence. I just judge by the way the audience is reacting. Just thought I'd share in case it seemed usable to anybody else. For me it gets the whole sequence started on a humorous note before the story even begins. |

This was also published as Cup-a-Ruba Ball-a-Duba by Steven Bender in 1989. He gives credit for the routine to Gene Gordon and Harry Monti.
