I have just come across a nice clip of Arturo de Ascanio on YouTube. It seems to be part of one of the TV shows hosted by Juan Tamariz on TVE. I grew up watching Tamariz on TV, but started getting serious about magic a few years ago, so it was the first time I saw Arturo's material performed in my native language. A real treat, if you ask me. Enjoy!

In the begining sequence, Tamariz is just explaining that Ascanio is not a card professional, that he has other profession and therefore his venues on TV are very rare.
That's a wonderful video, thanks for posting ! |

Way too looong for that trick, too much over proving; Ascanio is a master, but he does too much over proving in his tricks.

I don't think he is joking. I also find that the routine contains different moments which are a bit lengthy: some placements necessary to go on with the trick, moments devoted to show many faces and backs (he HAS TO in order to prevent the spectator to suspect the work) that lower the pace of the routine anbd dissolve the effect a little bit.
There are some very nice handlings, though, it is of course a pleasure to see him work. But I wouldn't say this routine is a "best of". Thanks for posting this. Jonathan. |

Hi magicfish,
I was not joking at all,i just wrote what I saw. Arturo Ascanio was one of the best card man in this planet, and I do a lot of his work and use a lot of his moves as well;but some of his routines or at least the ones I have seen, they are too long along with the patters and there is too much overproving and I mean too much; that is my opinion MagicFish. thanks Jonathan P. peace out there. I enjoyed it. I assume some of the other posters can understand the patter - I couldn't, but I have a feeling if I could understand the patter I wouldn't think it was too long. It's not a trick designed for viewing only.
Does anyone else think that showing the Jack blank on one side is a mistake? Again, I say this without knowing what the patter is, so it might be a necessary step in the proceedings. Regards |
