I've been trying to put a few shows togethor and I have a stand up act, silent stage act, but I want one more. I bought a cd with a lot of film noir sort of music on it like in the old detective movies. I would like to create another silent act but slower and with a theme too it. I was thinking of wearing a trench coat and a hat and come out smoking a cigarette. Basically I want it to be a slow manipulation act. Would jeff McBrides world class manipulation teach some good routines with billiard balls. What are the best type of balls to buy (that don't cost 70 bucks) Thanks!

Glen,
That is so ironic that you are looking to build an act around a detective theme. I was thinking of the very same thing this past week! Anyway, as for the McBride videos, they will teach you several sleights, etc. but only two "routines" can be found on the dvds. They are pretty basic. For what it is worth, I would suggest building a solid foundation of sleights, color changes, flourishes, etc. and create your own routine. Other than Fakinis (pretty spendy) I would suggest going to the local toy stores ($5 & Below or US Toys) and picking up several solid color bounce balls. They have excellent bounce and grip. I hope this has been helpful. FC |

How will the audience know you are a detective? Will you rely on cliches? Will they be told ahead of time, by the story line or will other character's clue them in? Why billiard balls, why not lottery balls (you'd have a case to solve)? Perhaps crime scene chalk line (rope)- Police tape (do not cross)- CSI garb- lasers- finger phasers.
In any case, don't get too detailed over the discussion boards- too many pirates without a vision of their own. Good Luck, Kregg

Thanks, I'll have to stop by the dollar store or walmart later on. I don't know if there will be a story likes omebody getting shot becuase I would like to have a one man act so I don't have to rely on other people.

1st your to young to smoke!
For a murder, many things can convey this, a bloody knife, a sign saying, murder in the theater, etc. Good luck! |

Yes I am to young to smoke, but in a year it's legal for me. Anyways I planned on using those joke cigarettes that have babypowder in them, they look and act very realistic!
