Michael Ammar's Easy to Master card miracles 1-6
Daryl's ambitious card
David Roth's ultimate coin
any of Michael Ammar's "Easy to Master" by series are pretty good for beginners

Just a few to start you out...but you can't go wrong with the ones mentioned above.

I'll second the opinion about Michael Ammar's DVDs. I'm relatively new also, and feel that Ammar's "Introduction to Coin Magic" and "Easy to Master Card Miracles, vol. 1" were well worth the money. I'll be buying more of Ammar's DVDs.

Where is the best site to get them from? I live in the UK and there are no shops that sell them near me or any magic stuff.

Hi,

Yup, I second and definitely third Daryl's Ambitious Card DVD ! All the DVDs above are very good and worth every cent of it, perhaps even more.

But it all comes down to what you're interested in. Cards, coins, etc.

Anyway, http://www.alakazam.co.uk is an excellent site, with EXTREMELY helpful personnel. And why not purchase some downloadable videos from ellusionist.com or danteking.com ? Both are great for beginners, trust me, it's money well spent there !

Rgs,
Melvin

Yes, I have to agree that danteking.com has some good teaching vids if you're having trouble finding DVDs in your area. I'm not a big fan of ellusionist.com--but that's just my opinion. Maybe you'll like it.

I've had good experiences with Mark Mason's JB Magic. Check http://www.jbtv.co.uk

Brad Burt has an excellent series that I think many beginners will appreciate. His teaching style is very well suited to magicians at all levels! Check him out at:

There's a dvd that has two of Lance Burton's specials on it. It doesn't teach you many tricks, but you get to see one of the best do some pretty amazing stuff.

Hey guys,

If you like the Ammar tapes, I strongly urge the beginner in magic to consider his "Exciting World of Magic" on DVD (it's available on VHS too, but if you have the means, DVD is superior).

I own every one of Michael Ammar's vids in one form or another (some are not available on DVD for example) and although I agree that his "Easy to Master" series are good, they are not intended for the beginner. In order to get the most from his "Easy to Master..." series, you should really know some sleights going in. Not that you won't get anything from them if you don't, it's just that you'll get lots more out of them if you already know *some* things.

For the absolute beginner, take "The Exciting World of Magic" and you'll get more than 20 tricks with all kinds of objects: coins, cards, borrowed finger rings, rubber bands, shoelaces, etc. Michael also gives you his advice on joining clubs, magazine subscriptions, what to buy first, where to buy, and heaps more. At the end of the programme, you even get to see Michael perform his complete Cups & Balls routine -- which, oddly enough, isn't even included on his own 2 volume "Complete Cups & Balls" video!

It's an outstanding programme for the beginner -- highly recommended!

Cheers!

Ammar, Daryl.
I think LLPub and Denny ship worldwide, you should check their sites.

Since you say you are new to magic, I think Larry Anderson's "Jaw Droppers" CD series will be a great help too.

I didn't really like jaw droppers, although I did find a few little nuggets that have come in quite handy. it's quite a good beginners tape but not for routines.
