Obviously it was replaced with the new one. Change is good.

I liked the old one MUCH better. I really don't like the new one. Sorry.

Nice, I like it. Though parts of it aren't as 'clean' looking as the old one... for example, the cup and the glow around 'the magic' show more noise/artefacts.

Stop me if you've heard this one...

How many magicians does it take to complain about a logo?

I LOVE the new look!

Hey folks,
Steve asked me to redesign his logo. The original was designed by Steve and he did a nice job for what he had at hand to work with. He came to me to create a new design which would represent a design as if it were created in a true neon sign style. I have many years experience as a Sign Designer so I was able to create the look he wanted...after about a thousand edits Smile
My task included maintaining a bit of flavor from the original and to actually work the layout, once again, as a sign company would actually do as if were to hang in a window.
I am sure there will be folks who like the old one better but, in time, you will forget about the original and come to love my design...OK..in a perfect world that would happen!

Neomagic,
You stated "the cup and the glow around 'the magic' show more noise/artefacts."
Actually, the "noise" is intentional to represent a glowing tube of neon which was the intent of the origianl design as well.

Anyway, feel free to criticise my work...I spent 25 years as a professional artist...it comes with the turf Smile
Take care

So you're the mastermind behind that sign huh! Well Chance I think it looks GREAT. Thank you for the new look and thank you Steve for updating the sign in the window.

I LOVE the new sign. Very classy. Looks like a real Café sign!!!

Can we make it blink when you're in the Café also?

Exactly Chance. This is supposed to be a Café and that lends itself to an informal dining place. The new logo gives the appearance of a family eatery. I think it looks great and is inviting.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the compliments as it was a pretty labor intensive job. The worst part was that I knew it would be a tough change as we all have gotten so used to seeing the familiar Café logo.
I want to give credit to the Rob Eubank who created the animation with the cells I gave him!
Thanks again,
Chance

The cup in the previous logo didn't have as much glow/noise around it (in fact, it was barely noticeable) and so looked cleaner as I said... the 'glow' around the title words could be softer if you wanted it to be so the 'noise' wasn't so accentuated... but its your call. Smile

The design is better than the previous one for sure. I prefer this one.

Chance, the logo looks great. It reminds me of a 1950's neon sign that would hang above a tiny, all metal diner.

Just a question, does anyone have the previous logo? I've saved some of the previous versions (For posterity and nostalgic reasons), but never saved the last one.

Another question: Fitting with the theme, can I get a cup of coffee for a nickel, or is that out of the question?

Neomagic,
You stated "the 'glow' around the title words could be softer if you wanted it to be so the 'noise' wasn't so accentuated... but its your call."

Actually, it was Steve's call. This was a specific request he wanted...lots of glowing. I prefer it myself.
I do see all your points either way and can appreciate your opinion.

Nick,
I have his old logo but not sure if it is in the animated format. I am sure you can PM Steve and make the request.
Thanks again for the compliments folks Smile

Neo,
Corel Draw 12. It is what I have used for everything on my website and all other electronic doodles. I started with Corel and never seemed to make the Adobe jump as I have gotten so comfortable with Corel. It has all the bells n whistles I need....for now Smile

All the lettering in the new Café logo was custom created by me. Ya never can find anything that fits perfect so ya have to start from scratch.
Take care

Chance... yes, Corel Draw is a favourite with many... I'm sure I used one of the earlier versions some time back... here are some of my (Photoshop) magic-themed desktop wallpapers if they are of interest http://neoweb.deviantart.com/scraps/ ... I should learn to use the pen tool better and have a go at illustrating, your web illustrations/doodles are excellent.
