Sorry, I have a temporary site up at http://www.standingbetweenobjects.com
It has a link to the manuscripts, I believe. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I'm upgrading to the convenience and functionality of shopping carts and PHP, and it's long and confusing. Thanks for the interest... jF |

Hi Vinny-
OMG. That great rubber band trick! Another example of my ADD in action. Let me see if I can find the pix and rethink that one...As I recall I think I designed myself into impossibilities. Let me see if I can find everything, simplify it all to be doable....again... Humble apologies, I'm also a year behind on John Wells' work, with England waiting. Tom

Hi all, and J.Prager,
I have sent the video file to J. Prager. I recall seeing the video of the 'improvement' to the Peekfolio handling that I came up with. There were rubber bands and all kinds of 'additions' to the original piece, but I still have my original position on this. This is a very direct, simple concept. If you're familiar with my work, you'll realize that I am very minimalist and organic in my methods and ideas. Quite often, I see magicians trying to improve my ideas by adding, adding, adding... But, to me, this feels like running, running, running. Even with the Magellan Levitation, I hear constantly from people wanting to 'add a lamp' or 'do it next to a chair.' I constantly wonder, why? Why would someone want to take something so simple and beautiful, and overdo it? This might be a case of a magician attempting to do mentalism... I don't know. I don't want to take anything away from Tom's efforts, and I never said anything before this. When I see my work supposedly improved, I simply want to state my position on this, respectfully. Part of my job as an author and inventor is also to consult. Hopefully, that is what all of you will see that I'm doing here. If possible, I would like the audience to forget that there was a folder involved at all. Going to too much trouble to 'wrap up' the information in question is to place way too much emphasis on the information at all. I'm simply replying here to warn of over proving something that is never questioned when I do the effect without all of the 'prevention.' I would like to encourage everyone to make an effect their own in performance, but there are some cases where too much 'addition' only results in effectively subtracting the final result. Best of luck with the concept, I hope that you have success with it, either way... And, all thanks to Tom and your attention and enthusiasm for the piece. I'd like to hear more about your success with the concept, either way, yours our mine. Jimmy Fingers http://www.jimmyfingers.com |

Jimmy-
You're certainly right about the simplicity becoming invisible, and glitzing things up only adding attention. I haven't mentioned my take on Peekfolio to many, just a few to check out it's viability, originality, etc. Other than that, I didn't want to get into vetting purchasers, etc., because to teach the moves, I'd have needed to tip the original, and vetting is too time consuming. Not my job, too busy. So I let it lie. I find it gives me reason to peek, more time to do so, and the perfect time. Then again, my eyes need the extra help. I think Peekfolio is about as elegant a method as you can get. It is slick, easy and brilliant. Hard to achieve in magic. And I think it is far less known than it should be. Congrats on its invention. It's one in an arsenal of good stuff from you. Best of luck-

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the nice words and work on Peekfolio. Yeah, I'm getting to that age, too, where I'm having to look to achieve a peek. I almost have to stare to achieve a look. I even glare when that stare is not getting it. I didn't want to sound unappreciative of your enthusiasm and work. And I appreciate your selective and considerate sharing of your improvements. Yeah, it's hard to not tip the original with the improvement. I would just hate for someone to jump to the extras without first trying the simple technique, and see the effectiveness and directness of it. I will add this, though. I'm doing it with random folders more often than with the recommended optimal folders, simply due to the organic nature of the concept. Borrowed folders are almost always more impressive than the search for the perfect set to bring. Always have another effect ready to use with the folder. I like to use Free Will of Order with a similar folder. That way, if for some reason the folder doesn't operate properly for the technique, I can simply use it for something else. If you use this technique, look at the places where you hang out regularly, and you might be surprised at how often that there IS a great folder available for this. Jimmy |

I am late for the party on this one. I just found this thread and knew nothing of this effect.

Well I have this and just LOVE it. Talk about a low tech method for getting information, WOW. Things happen and look so fair that people will not see anything. Why buy those fancy electronic things when you can do this? I am really impressed with this and will use it. I am glad that I saw this thread because I am really please with what Jimmy Fingers have to offer. He is a great thinker and cool guy.
If you haven't checked this out, then you own it to yourself to do so. Because of how fair this looks to people, I will rate this a 10 out of 10. I am digging this method. Using this method for a design duplication is amazing. Actually I am thinking that I will do this a couple of ways. One as a drawing duplication and the other using a Jerome Finley idea called, 'In the House of Madness'. Wow, Peekfolio just ROCKS! Best Ray |

It does add a little more time to get the peek. I really like both methods of getting the peek and both are very good. Jimmy's method is pure and simple while Tom's method adds a kind of test conditions to the overall feel of the routine. Ray |

Thank you, Ray, for the compliments. I've never understood why Peekfolio is as 'under the radar' as it is.
In my mind, this elegant and invisible method should have its own book of routines and uses by now. It is perfect for bumping up into even larger effects...the method is clean enough to use several times in a row...and a peek of several folders among several others could lead to interesting things... Anyway...thanks!

Very nice indeed. No Office Depot here in Belgium but I'm sure I'll find something that's close enough to use this principle. Thinking about using this for a sneak thief type routine.
