Here is my review of Liquid Band:
Effect: A regular unprepared rubberband is spread around the thumb and first finger of the right hand and a pencil is placed through it. With the hand in an open position and with the audience burning the pencil and rubberband the pencil impossibly melts right through the band very visually. Also, using the idea that Vinny credited to Vince Mendoza, you can then put the pencil underneath the rubberband, with the rubberband in the same position and have the pencil melt into the band. This effect is very practical as all it needs is a borrowed rubberband and any pen or pencil, however, from my experience, this works better with pens and pencils that are thinner and do not have a lot of stuff like clickers hanging off them. I give the effect an 8/10. Difficulty: The penetration relies on a quick setup move that is done with the audience burning your hands and done very quickly. It takes some practice to get it down, but Vinny teaches it very well. Personally, I was having a hard time with one part of the move, but after talking to Vinny, he told me what I was doing wrong and he made it very easy. (4/10) Angles: The angles for the effect are very, very good. They are very easy to work with, and I believe the effect can be done surrounded. There is only one bad thing for the audience to see and it is so easily covered that it does not really matter. Just a few minutes in front of a mirror should clear up the bad angle. (9/10) The Band: As Vinny has said, any band can be used. Number 19's are best. I was having a hard time learning the effect with a smaller band but was able to learn it easier with a bigger one, and now I can do it with the smaller. So I recommend learning with a slightly stretchier, larger band. Also, when you do the move, you start to build up finger strength in one area of the hand where there is a bit of strain, but it is very easy to get used to. All in all, the effect is great. The method is simple and practical and not extremely difficult. The practicality of this effect is what makes it stand out. The reactions of the spectators will not be screaming and running around. They will be more like "What the f***", confused reactions, but very good all the same. You will have people coming up to you and saying "show me that thing with the band". Personally, I do barely any rubberband effects, but Vinny made this very easy, and he has a winner with this one. I'm glad I put in the time to learn it and I implore you to do the same. It is very easy to understand and is three videos: a front view, a back view, and the repenetration. Cody |

P.S.
For those of you who do not know what this is, it is Liquid Band by Vinny Marini. It is an instant download sold at his site for 6 dollars, which is a steal. There is also a video of the effect on there. http://www.vinnymarini.com Cody |

I totally agree with you on this Cody. The Liquid Band is right up there with CMH (IMO). It is another really inspired piece of impromtu magic that just looks so good.
I found it took abit of pratice before I could be sure to get it everytime, but it is the sort of thing you can have with you always so practticing I snot a problem. I urge everyone to check out the video clip because it really does look that good. Heck if I am bored I do it for myself (I am easily fooled)- as I just love watching the band penetrate the pencil like that. If you like band magic - then this can not be recommended enough. I will also add that Vinny Marini is one of the most friendly/helpful people in magic. But then I am sure you all already know that. |

Bananafish, what are we doing? We have to keep this to our selves. Why did I do that? I feel horrible inside.

Correct me if I'm wrong Vinny but isn't the Breakaway Bracelet going to be on Paul Harris' upcoming DVD set? I have seen this effect and it floored me. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I just downloaded this upon all of your recommendations - looks great! Took me a few minutes to get the moves just right, but I've got it now. I'll practice for awhile before going public with it, but it looks like it's going to be a winner, and as James said, a great tie-in with CMH. Only $6.00? It's a steal! Thanks for the heads up on it, Café members! -Jeff

I got this last week and had a blast playing with it. What a great intro or follow-up to CMHC. Keep these rubberband effects coming.
Thanks again, Rick |

Just got this a week or so ago myself. Great trick. Unbelievably good price for a trick that stands along side Crazy man's Handcuffs and Pinnacle. I'll be buying some DVDs from Vinny soon. Thank you Vinny
