I've done a search and see some but not a lot of Patter for the Torn and Restored newspaper other than the patter that comes with the trick, I am looking for fresh innovative KISS ideas (keep it simple & slick)
Input appreciated. Thanks |

You can spout off some one liners "hey look says here the local rbewery is looking for a one legged man to make hops!" . You do some of those and then tear it up. Then state "oh crap I forgot about this other article in here, were was it" and restore the newspaper and look for the one liner!

Hi Dennis,
Another idea is to do the effect to music and just say absolutely nothing at all. Trust me, they get it! I have used it as a message type of piece but have been doing it for quite awhile now to a Miles Davis number as my opener. The magic speaks for itself. What did you have in mind? A gospel message type of presentation or just something to say while doing the effect? Glen

Yes...it would be helpful to have an idea as to what general direction your patter should be heading. I also recommend like Glenn to try and do it to music.
A recycling theme might work. Kevin |

You could also use Lottery or Racing results.

I will be using the torn and restored to different venues, yes gospel, corporate programs and youth programs for high school and college students. I am new to magic and want to learn Gene's TR but haven't figured it out yet and can't get the no tear out either, so far I can do joel's, I want to have several different tr's to be able to switch up. My topics include Leadership, motivation, team building, substance abuse prevention and highway traffic safety. I especially am interested in traffic safety patter since I just got a contract for that arena. I figure I will do Gene's when I keynote since it is more visual and Joel's when I have to do back to back since reset is so quick. What other TR's would you recommend? I like the ones that are more visual. Unfortunately we don't have a magic shop in our city or anywhere within a couple hundred miles so this Café has been a Godsend. Thanks for all your ideas.

Ok I found the perfect newspaper for the torn and restored today from the freebie newsstands. I grabbed a handfull but I'm going to go back get a ton of them. I want to tap into the great magical minds for patter. I was thinking off the top of my head about I was at the newsstand and saw this newspaper on the 911 files and as I began to read I saw about how the lives of so many people were torn by these senseless acts and start tearing the paper and then give some word pictures first tower hit more lives torn and destroyed, second tower hit (tear only) give a little patter and say something to the effect "I wish that I could just like this newspaper snap my fingers and all their leves were restored to normal." Input and suggestions, tips appreciated. Thanks. Dennis

I would be very careful of your audience. I am from NJ, and that kind of routine will hit a nerve of sadness, as we lost so many people. I suspect that many throughout the US may feel the same.
Tnat said, I think that other themes, that are less real, but are instuctive may be good, such as, if we tear apart our lives, in the end we can always put out lives together again if... (fill in the blanks). Just my opinion. Regards, Bob. |

You are absolutely right it would have to be in the right context with the right audience with a skilled facilitator and a program designed to touch emotions which when you want to move people to take action, you have to touch those emotions. I would probably use it in a stress management program. I have been a professional speaker for many years and speak on real time issues. I would probably do a lessons learned brief discussion and then snap them out of that sad state by doing a exercise to bring them out. This is pretty easy to do and I do it all the time when I tell my story of my 5 year old son that was murdered by an impaired driver. I would not recommend this unless the person doing it is highly skilled on the platform though.

I just got a call to speak to a group called The Compassionate Friends which is a group of people that the members have lost a child, it offers friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. using this in the context where 9/11 is just one of the paper tears, others might be suicide, murder, drug overdose, drunk driving... It will be a perfect venue where 9/11 will just be the lead in and probably a better idea to use the different tears. After tr I would do a moment of silence and then bring them into a much happier state.

Experience in group settings absolutely, experience with magic, hardly. The fastest route to success is OPE (other people's experiences) and modeling. That's why ideas are so valuable, take a little from here, little from there and twist, turn it to fit you and .... Either way, you are right!
