Hi! I'd like to learn how to do the effect were the magician slowly puts some milk in a folded newspaper and then unfold the newspaper to show that the milk as disappeared. I don't even know the name of that effect (what a shame!).
Could you guys give me some info on videos or books were I could found that effect? Thanks in advance guys! Danik |

That's right, it's the milk pitcher. A neat effect that can be presented in various ways. There is also an update of the prop recently created by Dan Harlan, called The Jug. You can find out lots of info here on the Café if you do a search for topics about "The Jug".
I used to perform the milk pitcher effect and had a lot of fun with it and if I were to do so again I would definitely get The Jug. Good luck. GlenD

Hey Danik, don't stop there!
When you buy your milk pitcher or jug, also get an appearing liquid glass, or funnel or some other device. You can make the milk appear somewhere else, or pour it through someone' ear, etc. Jim |

Good point Jim. I have always felt that the milk pitcher was a great effect, but that it lacked presentational impact, because it kind of stops short, if you know what I mean. I generally use it as a gag, or if I see in the begining of a show that I have a difficult spectator, I make believe that I trip as I tell him that I have something for him in the newspaper. After no milk falls on him, I warn him that the next time I will do the trick wrong and he will have to change his cloths. I don't know why, but it usually shuts them up, as I think they realize that they are not in control and that I could embarass them. You also paid them the attention that they are craving.
In any event, that is why I would use it, but I love your idea. Thanks, Bob. BTW, which magic sites have these props, if you know. |

Another enhancement is to make a little pocket inside the newspaper and add white confetti!
Then when you trip and stuff a bunch of white stuff comes flying out and for just that split second they will think they are truly about to be drenched with the milk! You don't even have to add all that much of the confetti for it to be effective. Also get the round cardboardish type of confetti, it has a bit more weight than the really light type of paper confetti and will fly out better. That's how I perform the effect and always had a lot of fun with it. Glen

Thanks a lot guys! There's some cool ideas there! I guess the only thing left for me is to go and buy the material to perform that effect and create a fun presentation like you guys just told. Thanks once again!

I agree with a reappearance or transformation. It has been my experience that children don't like it when things vanish without any further resolution.

Danik the Jug is Dan Harlan's and it is, at present, difficult to locate. Perhaps you can ask if anyone has one they would be willing to sell.

Dan sent me an email yesterday and he said he is still selling the JUG directly through him.

Dear Candini:
Is there a site to order Dan Harlan's Danik Jug. I am interested it purchasing one. Could you foward the information. Thanks, Bob |

Now it's "Danik the Jug" LOL. Hey Danik1... look what happened, now you have a product named after you (just like magic)!!
A result of a lack of a comma and not reading a thread from the beginning (read from Joe.Bacchus on down), I guess. Still funny though! When ordering, I suggest not asking for "Danik The Jug", just inquire about "The Jug". Glen

I emailed Dan several days ago - still no answer.
I'm thinking seriously about havening a friend of mine in LA just drop by his place and buy one of the "jugs" in person. Jim |
