I once knew a fellow who said he had performed for several celebrities. Considering that he performed the watch steal and the wallet steal for a living, I am willing to bet they didn't know they were part of a "performance" until a little later.

Can't even remember half of the celebs I've performed for...so many.
I used to work for a concert promoter in NYC, I worked as a P.A. and also house magician. I worked all the after parties and vip suites. Here's a partial list: Elton John Keith Richards Johnny Cash Buena Vista social Club (Ibrihim Ferrer loved me so much, he let me play a morrica on stage at the Beacon Theatre.) Bob Weir Robert Plant Yo La Tengo Bela Fleck Snoop Dog Eminem Counting Crows (Their mgr was a great grandson of Carter.) And a bunch more... Also performed for a lot of the NYC sports teams: Giants, Yankees, Nets. Also worked at the U.S. Open I performed in the players lounge and the presidents box. Some names that I remember: Tony Bennett, Trump, Mayor Dinkins. I performed for most of all the players from Roddick, Agassi, Fedderer, Macenroe, Billy Jean King, Sharapova, etc. Also was featured on Jim Currier and Al Trautwig's USA TV show. |

My wife and I saw Drew Barrymore and her boyfriend (the Apple Computer guy) at Boondocks in the FL Keys a couple of months ago. Everyone was trying to get me to perform for them (I was table hopping and they were in a corner of the bar) but I declined because they were trying to be low key and I wanted to respect their privacy. My wife will never let me live that down - she loves Drew.
Magic is an art. I am merely a tour guide.

Greg Brady (okay, he's really Barry Williams) a few years ago. We sat and had drinks.

I was doing living statue at Art4Life, which is a great charity, and Viveca Fox came by. It was her birthday, apparently. She got her picture taken with me, and I noticed she smelled like oranges, in a good way.
I walked down the red carpet with Madonna once; I was dressed as 'Lotsa de Casha', the title character of one of her children's books. She was very gracious, incredibly professional, and handled press masterfully. The look of envy in the eyes of the megafans was intimidating to the point of terrifying. And Rosie O'Donnell pinched my butt on that gig. (and David Copperfield was there too, to drop the magic name) I was promoting Madison Scare Garden on the Today Show, dressed in one of their giant monster costumes. (There were three of us there in big costumes; now the rest of the story is absolutely true, but it may not have been me that did it. I remember the story as if it were me, but it could have been a compatriot. It's been too many years...) The costume's arms extended about 24 inches past my own hands, and after giving Katie Couric a hug, I lost track of the end of my costume arms. I got caught up in her clothes, and ended up lifting her skirt more than a few inches before she caught it. Made for good TV. Happy Spring. -Brian |

But it was definitely the right move to not interupt them. I really can't imagine being a superstar like those people and trying to just have a nice meal. Someone asked Robin Williams once what it's like to be rich and famous. He replied that being rich is fun, but famous, not so much. |
