Sleightgeek has launched a new type of magic news site:

http://social.sleightgeek.com

This is a magic news site where the content is controlled by the user community. It's called "social bookmarking" and this is the first site like this to focus on magic.

Users submit stories (a link to something on the internet: a blog post, a video, a story, etc) with a description. You can submit anything you want. Then the user community votes on these stories to decide which ones end up on the front page and the RSS feed.

The owners of the site will do no moderating - the user community does that. If you're familiar with digg.com, this is the same type of site except it's for magic.

If you're interested, register and start submitting stories and voting. Feel free to do shameless plugs to your products or anything you want. The community will decide if it's news worthy.

The site just went live so no stories have enough votes to be on the front page yet so we need people to help it get going if the magic community feels this is something they want. We are providing this for free and there are no ads or anything like that.

I am not familiar with this concept but I have registered. Sounds interesting.

Thanks for registering. The concept takes a little getting used to.

A good way to start is to click the "Sneak" link on the left. This lets you spy on all the current activity that is going on: new stories being submitted, voted on or commented on.

If you see something that interests you, give it a vote. If you think a story is bad, you can label it a "problem".

When a story is first submitted it goes in the "queue" to be assessed by the user community. If it gets enough votes, it gets published to the front page.

Very cool; I hope the user base can get up to the critical mass necessary to vote the stories to the front page!
