Ever notice how the so called Celebrity types have a need to reveal their secret lives off camera...sometimes they blame the media but it's all forced and phonyed up none the less.
How about Side Show folks? What entertains you at home? Do Fire Eaters dwell on repeated viewings of 'Back Draft' and Sword Swallowers look forward to Zorro or Errol Flynn Sword play? What is the SECRET life of relaxation off the Midway and the Bally Stand? What if revealed would BLOW YOUR COVER??? On today's (8/07) 'Pygmyland Herald' blog... http://pygmylandherald.blogspot.com/ I'll kick start this thread by revealing the true SECRET Higley. It ain't pretty...but it is true and after being asked so often about all the Weird Things I have in my house, I thought I would just tell all and let you know what it's REALLY like. After you read that, let's hear YOUR secrets (if you have any) that might surprise the reader. If this thread remains empty...I'll assume your a freak 24/7.

I spend a lot of time in an office in my house surrounded by piles of books and musical instruments, I sit in the garden and fire a spud gun at the wind chimes, I like watching manga type films at the moment, especially Gibli ones and 'Ghost in the Shell'. I walk the dog in a local cemetary and kick a football around for him to chase.
Today my daughter and I went into town to do a survey (my daughter is six), she had a clipboard and some sheets of paper, the question we posed was, 'Do you believe in Faeres?' Out of 65 people polled the results were as follows: 39 did believe 13 did not & 13 didn't know Pretty conclusive I know. I don't really watch television, but listen to the radio, I suppose it is rare I truly relax (there's always several things to do), but I do dabble with a little Zazen. Corona p.s very interesting pictures of shell's on mars in your blog Doug! It is wide open for real estate investment up there. If anyone would like to purchase a few acres on mars let me know, think of the future... |

Readers might be surprised to learn that my wife and I relax at home with a complex flock of four parrots: a Budgie named Jack, a Peach-Faced Lovebird named Buddy, a Masked Lovebird named Dromio, and a Senegal Parrot named Timon. Both the fearless Harley Newman and the death-defying Ses Carny have met the flock, and if we had video, people would be astonished to see the gentleness that these very tame parrots coax out of sideshow folk. Timon climbed onto Harley's hand, and she let Ses Carny pet her.
If that's not worth a spashly tabloid article, I don't know what is! Yours, Paul |

Not that I'm 'Sideshow Folk', but...
This weekend I played in a 'Pirates Constructibles' miniatures tournament, moving little cardboard ships around between little cardboard islands, gathering cardboard dubloons. I was beaten by an 11-year-old. (Who, by the way, LOVED my cannibal toe necklace, Doug!) Right now I'm sitting in a gray cube wishing it was an hour later so I could go home and watch the Simpsons. Then I'll go into my study and catalog a few more of my books on LibraryThing.com, construct a BETTER cardboard pirate fleet for next week so I can beat that !@#$% 11-year-old, cruise eBay for a bit looking for bargains in whatever I decide my interest du'jour is, and will probably fall asleep reading a GURPS roleplaying manual. The excitement just never stops! My excuse is that I had my 55th birthday on Sunday.

Thnks for the 'insights' so far guys! Keep 'em coming.
Doc...you mention your Birdy friends...you might want to see the update to the blog I just posted over the one this thread is about. It's sad, but you'll 'get it'. Corona...you can tell your daughter a new Faerie just joined the troup from America. He's very little but has wonderful songs.

My life sucks. My wife is very ill and I've been taking care of her. As she cannot work (she is well enough to tell me what an a-hole I am) I am broke and had to get an additional job to try to keep somewhere near the surface. Thus I've had a grand total of three days off since January, the morgage company gave one of my payments to another persons account and somehow it is my fault they did it and they still have not fully accepted the fact and can't double up, and I'm having to go buy cloths I can't afford so I can go to job interviews since I'll be laid off in October. I do like my dogs though.

Thanks, I have a surprisingly good attitude to be honest with you. First off I was a combat vet and things don't bother me much since then and the simple fact is my wife survived against great odds and better to be called an a-hole than be in silence.

What does the 'prodigy' do in his spare time???
Usually I call Mr. Higley on the phone and bother him. When I'm not doing that I'm not doing much else...I'm your typical 17 year old (read: lazy @$Sh0le) Sometimes I wonder outside in the sun and make a fool out of myself by practicing in my front yard and explaining to the cops that I'm a trained professional. Brett.

I get home, I start checking on my animals. Fish and Doves and Hermit Crab first, then the tarantula and the scorpion, then upstairs past the wall of weapons (Swords, axes, bullwhips and fire tools like Sylver's fans and my Claws) to check on the python and the other fishtank.
Then I usually cook some dinner for Sylver and myself, eat, and then go to either a rehersal for a performance,a performance or off to work on short films. Wednesday Evenings I get my kids and we eat dinner and watch cartoons. Every other weekend I get to keep them to myself, and Sylver and I take them to ren fairs, amusement parks, zoos (I love zoos!), malls, the beach, camping...Anywhere interesting. Those rare nights when I don't have kids or rehersal for some show, we generally stay home watching horror movies and etching glass, sculpting, kicking around new show ideas, figuring out what new animal to bring into the apartment next... The apartment itself is unique...The living room is all memorabilia from shows. Photographs of us on stage, autographed items, props hung on walls, our sideshow banners and animal tanks. Off to the side, set apart from the overstimulation of our living room is a meditation room under the stairs. An altar with candles, wall hangings and a Tealight Candle screen cut it off from the rest of the place. The dining room is the clutter room. The Computer, Toolboxes, art boxes, an easel...This is where we make all of our props, fire tools, SFX gadgets, magic devices... Everything gets made here with the company of the two ringneck doves. That's it. My life pretty much revolves around Sylver, my kids and developing shows and art. Just the way I like it. Gwyd |

Steve V,
If you are who I think you are, then I met you in Riverside a couple of years ago. I doubt if you remember me, our meeting was brief, very brief. I wish you well and hope a $$$ opportunity will be just around the corner for you. Max |

Might be, I've not been in Riverside for awhile. One bit of sunshine, my mortgage company finally admitted that the payments went to the wrong account and have pulled back the legal stuff.

But I guess a secret life secret I have is that currently I am a substitute teacher in search of a full time job as an art teacher. But I choose to keep my performing life seperate from school. The last thing I need is a conserative parent ranting and raving in fear that I may "taint" their little angels. Not to mention if a child decided to "try this at home" My gods the horror! That is another reason why I don't use my legal name often, not to mention the occasional stalker fan. So that's my secret life outside of performing... Pretty boring =)

My secret life is that of an athlete... I played lacrosse most of my life, including in college. And I continue to play ice hockey. Here is a photo of us after winning the Summer 2006 Championship a few weeks ago.
http://www.creativeconjuring.com/myspace/hockey.jpg I'm the big ugly guy with the captain's "C" on my sweater. I have, however, switched to a full-face shield to avoid needing major dental work before a photo shoot. Otherwise, I like to ride my mountain bike, play a little golf, read and watch movies (when I actually have the free time). |

I have two cats and a boyfriend. I spend as much of my free time with the three of them as I can, but often work calls me out of state. I do stage managing for the boyfriend's band, Telesma, because they are an amazing group (not just because I sleep next to the didj player). I am an artist occationally when I find the time and I love books on CD so I can read and clean or drive at the same time. I'm known to frequent thrift stores and sometimes resell my finds to vintage/costume stores for some extra cash. I'm also a hell of a cook when I have a decent kitchen to work in and someone else willing to do the dishes. Other than that I'm a really boring homebody who watches too much TV when there is time to do so.... I feel like I just did some sort of personal blurb on one of those campy dating websites.... Magician seeking Magician....
