August 9th is Celebrate Watermelon Day.
Frances Mai-Ling & Chris Marshall will perform together for the first time. They have magic history ties. Joe Diamond will join them for this special event. More info available at http://www.mai-ling.net artists bio below: Warren is a Chicago-based musician who plays guitar in the tradition of Mother Maybell Carter and sings in the tradition of Doc Watson. He weaves these influences into a clear and simple style all his own. Playing early country and bluegrass gems, Warrren is a favorite performer at private Chicago events. Don't miss this rare public appearance! Joe Diamond is an 18-year-old student of magic who uses a unique combination of psychology, sleight of hand, and showmanship in his performances. He develops and performs his effects by refusing to believe that something is Impossible. At 16, he was the youngest member of two successful Chicago stage shows, "Nothin' Up My Sleeve" and "Marshall Brodien & Friends." At 17, he was the youngest first place winner at the Close Up Classic in Colon, Michigan, and the youngest guest artist of SankeyMagic's "Underground Jam" DVD project which was filmed in Toronto, Ontario. Frances Mai-Ling is penning the genre of alternative-classical piano, whose most recent release ‘chronology’ is receiving glowing reviews. She will be joined on stage with Violinist Chris Marshall on select songs. She was recently awarded the 2006 American Heart & Stroke Heroes Award by the American Heart Association for her work as an community advocate. Her hard work in raising awareness is literally close to her heart – her father suffered a stroke in 1998. Mai-Ling’s CDs are outfitted with information and a portion of all CDs sold is donated to the AHA. This money helps with education programs and research. Mai-Ling has been performing music most of her adult life but also comes from a show business family of magic. Her father is the only magician to work with Dante & Blackstone, Sr as an assistant, before developing his own show. He is most noted for being the first magician and one of the very variety acts to perform on Chicago’s Bozo's Circus in 1964. For several years he worked as a lone magician, before meeting his future assistant and wife. Then Mai-Ling was born. When she reached a mischievous age, her parents put her into the show to keep her out of trouble. Today she is troublesome with 88-keys. Chris Marshall is an improvisation violinist from a magical family. His grandfather, Jay Marshall was the Dean of Magicians before his passing in 2005 as well as the co-owner of Magic, Inc. a historic magic shop on the north side where many magicians famous and not-so-famous have spent countless hours talking too much to each other. Chris' family and Frances' family have been friends for generations and now they're performing together for the first time!
