About 7 years ago at the winter carnavel of magic in Tennese I met this older gentelman with long grey hair and a big grey bearded he looked like a wizard. His name was Harry Garson he did a private show for me and a few other magicians in his hotel room. He blew smoke rings flawlessly for about a half hour. It was the closest thing to real magic I had ever seen. I meet him two years after that at magi fest in Colombus Ohio and was sad to learn he had dibeates. He mentioned he had been on the Johnny Carson show twice the first time he got laughed off the stage because there was a draft and it messd his rings up people didn't take him seriously, but he went on to say that they had him back again where he redeemed himself. I havnt been able to find any info on this fella for a while if anyone knows any thing please let me know. I would love to know if hes sill alive? Where I can see videos of him performming?ect... He inspired me to get descent at my smoke rings and theres nothing in this world Id rather do than thank him for intoduccing me to this art and discuss tecnique with him. If you know of any other links to extreamly good smoke ring blowers fill free to list those as well.
Thanx all! |

Come on has no one heard of Harry. I bought the book th amazing cigar and in there it mentions that the time the draft caught Harry on stage at the Johnny Carson show and it messed him up is on Johnny Carson's bloopers. Does anyone know were to download johnny carson bloopers. The book also talks about the father of smoke rings Bert Pichel I found his family ancestry and found a few really good photos of him blowing some spectacular rings. The legand says he could blow 23 3in rings by taking one draw off a cigar. If any of you all are interested in blowing smoke rings the Amazing Cigar is a gret book on technique.
hope someone else can find mre stuff on this art. |

I can blow a 3in ring about 8 feet way from me untill it begins to disapate every time. About 2 ut of ten times I can blow a 4in ring and get a 2in one to go through it without destroying the first one. Iam not as good as Bert or Harry but I enjoy the practice and just smoking a good cigar. One time I acidently blow 3 3in rings one on top of another ceating what I like to call the snowman rings. Ive only repeated it once on purpose but it will come with time. If I take one draw of a cigar I can typically produce 4-5 rings at a time. Iam not that good but considering a year ago I couldn't do anything described above I've come a long ways, smoke is a very fragile medium. The cigar you smoke can make all the difference in your rings.

I couldn't find any vid of Harry but if you go to Youtube and type in smoke rings a bunch of amateurs come up. I also discovered by accident recntly that if you float something on Invisibe thread and and blow a smoke ring around it the thread wont break the ring. Kind of like passing a solid hoop around a floatng object pretty convincing.

Harry is still around and the greatest performer I have ever seen. He did his smoke ring routine for me a number of years ago. It was incredible.
Harry is in the Cinncinati area. He has a player piano restoration company there. He is worth seaching out and experiencing. |
